average hospital stay for TAH?

I got the word today that I'll be scheduled for a TAH at the end of February. (2002) This wasn't unexpected - I have numerous large fibroids causing me extreme pain with periods. I've had kids, had my tubes tied 12 years ago, don't want any more kids, and this solution is not unwelcome.

I was limited on time today with the doctor - I was running late getting to work - but was wondering what the average hospital stay for a TAH is. I guess I had it in my mind that it was a day or so, but what I've been seeing looks like it's longer - 5-7 days?

average hospital stay for TAH?

Hi,

I went in to the hospital on Friday, January 11 and and was released on Tuesday, January 15. The doctor said that I could have gone home on Monday but I still had a low grade fever.

Hope this info helps and good luck to you.

average hospital stay for TAH?

I had my TAH late in the afternoon on a Tuesday, and was out on Friday (if my foggy memory is correct). I know it was 3 nights. I think I could have left after two, but they were taking great care of me, and I was getting lots of rest, so I was in no rush.

For my TAH/BSO, the surgery was Monday morning, and I went home Wednesday afternoon, though they told me I could stay another night if I wanted to.

Two Days for Me!

I had TAH/BSO on Thursday 01/10/02. Wasn't out of recovery until almost 8 PM that night after a late surgery, and I was home on that next Saturday 01/12/02 before 3 PM! I did not think I was sent home too soon - it felt just right to me. I think it helped that I got up and walked as much as I could the next day and Saturday morning. I think that helped me feel better and showed the medical staff that I was doing okay. They only needed to hear bowel sounds before they said okay to go home, I didn't have to move my bowels before (there is no delicate way to say that!). I did drink tons of water as soon as I could to get my bladder full so that the chances of my being able to go that way were better. I think that all helped me get home sooner. Plus I'm feeling suprisingly well at almost three weeks post-op. Hope all goes very well for you and hope this helps!

Hi, had my tah/bso on Friday 1/18/02 around lunchtime and went home on Sunday about the same time. Was told I would be in until Monday, but Sunday morning dd came in said everything looked great and asked if I wanted to go home. He didn't have to ask twice...Hospital was great, but I rested better at home. Good luck!!

i chose to recoup at home..lol

i had my TAH on jan 24 in the afternoon, and talked my doc into releasing me the afternoon of the 25th. he told me that in all his years of practice i was the only woman that had asked him to go home the next day..lol. personally i just felt i could relax and recoup better at home. besides, my mom was in town to help out for a few days, my fiance is first rate at babying his new princess, and i have a 12 yr old daughter that wants to help out with anything she can to make my recovery easier. besides, my future mother in law is just across the street, and she's a retired intensive care nurse. surrounded with people like this, the hospital just didn't compare! eva

Had my TAH_BSO on Monday Jan 21, 2002 and was released Friday Jan 25. Think my stay was one day longer than most Canadian gals only because had developed low blood pressure.
