average hospital stay for TAH?

DebbieG,

I had my TAH on November 23rd and was released by early afternoon on November 24th.

I went in thinking I was going to have a LAVH and ended up with the TAH. With the LAVH, my doctor told me one day, if it was going to be a TAH, he said two to three days.

Because I was doing so well, walking around, eating, no vomiting, managable pain, using the bathroom, etc., he released me to go home.

I was more than ready! The hospital was noisy and bright, it was GREAT to be in my big, comfy bed and in my own home.

Wishing you an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery!

Routine (if there is such a thing) tah - the ins co allows two nights in the hosp. Of course they can't make you go home if there were complications, have to let you stay as long as dr says it's medically necessary. The dr or someone from his office or the hosp keeps the ins co informed. Are there any medical type people in the ins co's who help make these decisions, or just some clerk who has the power to say yes or no? hmmmmmmmm.

average hospital stay for TAH?

Hi,

I had a radical TAH on Friday morning (first thing) and came home Monday around lunchtime. I think my doctors had planned on me being there longer (they gave me a range of 3-6 days before the surgery), but by Monday morning, the only complication I was having was low blood pressure due to low blood counts. They loaded me up with iron tablets and said I could leave whenever I wanted!

I think a lot of the release time is very dependant on how you do after the surgery, and that is highly individual.

Best of luck to you!

TAH/BSO

Hi there, I had my hysterectomy Friday, Jan 11 and my dr told me I could go home on Saturday. I chose to stay just one more night to make sure all was still okay. It was and I went home on Sunday. I had a very easy time with the surgery, am hoping you will too.

Hi debbig,

I'm not scheduled till Feb. 27th and my doc. told me 23 hours!

Considering what I'm reading from the other sisters I am very relieved to find out they won't kick me out. I have been really scared the doc. would push, push, push for me to get out of the "castle". But I am much relieved to see that I do get a say in the matter. It was 3 nights for my delivery of both girls too, this sounds similar.
