Re: What age do doctors stop estrogen therapy?

Has the incidence of breast cancer increased in the last 20 years?
If so, then maybe this is what the doctors are talking about.
Correlating the increased use of HRT to the increase in the incidence of breast cancer. I wonder if they attribute other female cancers to the increased use of HRT?
In my mother's generation, almost all her friends got HRT when menopause started.
Now my gyn oncologist does not want me to have it unless my symptoms are unbearable.
I am thinking that maybe I need some.

Re: What age do doctors stop estrogen therapy?

Yes, BC did increase and yes it has decreased since the WHI study came out.

However, we have to again realize that a lot of drs gave women Prempro; which is the worst thing from what i can gather. There is very little increase in BC in women who use only estrogen.

Kay, yay! for what your dr said...kudos for him for recognizing the reality of the situation.

Estrogen doesn't cause breast cancer to start, it just will feed it if it does start and it's estrogen responsive. So, no one can say whether you would have gotten it or not if you hadn't had hysterectomy. It's possible that if they ever decrease the number of hysterectomies in the US that we will see an increase in all female cancers...who can say?

All of this is quality of life question versus risks and it's very individual and a personal decision. If I end up with BC 5 years from now, there's no way I will ever say the estrogen caused it becuae I would have been producing my own anyway if I hadn't gotten BSO. I would most likely blame it on too many bagels with cream cheese.
