Headache Problems after TAH & BSO

I am still recovering after having my hyst a week past Friday, I stayed in hospital until Monday 28th and then came home as the immediate aftercare wasn't very good. I am still suffering a degree of pain and discomfort abdominally but more noticeable are the blinding headaches that I am suffering from almost constantly. I am taking paracetamol and Brufen as often as I can but this doesn't seem to help much. I have already suffered a few hot flushes and wondered if the headaches were menopausal or perhaps still operation related. If anyone has had similar symptoms I would really appreciate any help or advice. I have been advised to stay off HRT for a few weeks (or at least until I see the consultant again in March) to give the Endo a chance to settle down. I'm hoping I'm not alone out there with this suffering. Any support is most welcome!

Hi, HelenW,

I have suffered from migraine headaches for many years. I had the mother of all migraines, several times, during the first three weeks after my hyst. After that, they went away and I haven't had a migraine since!

It seems like lots of women have bad headaches during the first few weeks after a hyst. It would be a good idea to let your doctor know about this, because it may be possible to get a prescription for something stronger to help with them. I hope your headaches go away, as mine did.

Best wishes,

My headaches were BEFORE my hysterectomy...and I think it was due to anemia. My blood count was very low from all the heavy bleeding I was having for 3 weeks straight. I know anemia can cause terrible headaches

Hi Helen!

I'm sorry you're suffering from those headaches. I am not familiar with paracetamol or Brufen. But what came to my mind is that if either are them are narcotic pain relievers, it may be possible they are the culprit behind your headaches. In my experience, I have had terrible headaches from Percocet. It seems that I would get them after taking several doses, which could be over a day or two. Eating a little something seems to help me avoid these problems. I let my Dr. know and he presribed a different pain releiver when I had my hyst, and I didn't have any headaches.

I do think that you need to speak to your Dr. so he/she may be able to prescribe a different medication or offer you suggestions to help. I'd hate to see you suffer if your Dr. can help.

Please let us know how you make out, ok?

Best wishes and s
