Re: Did progesterone cream help you sleep?

Yes, it did. I suffered with insomnia since my hyster in 06. Once I got my ERT right and then adding compounded progesterone...I finally had a good night sleep. I use only 25mg.
Hope you get a good night sleep too!!

Did you have a hard time getting your doctor to give you the prescription?

Re: Did progesterone cream help you sleep?

Progesterone did the opposite for me. It kept me awake and jittery.

Did you use the cream, gel, or pill form of progesterone?

I started with a compounded progesterone cream and then an oral prog...but both doses were too high for me (100mg)...it caused major issues with depression and drowsiness.
Ended up going back to my GYN and she prescribed compounded progesterone cream. She prescribed 50mg at bedtime. I now use 25mg. because it seems to help the same as the 50mg so I stretch out my Rx to last longer.
She did not give me a hard time about the Rx. She saw I was suffering with insomnia and nothing else was helping me. Why do you ask?

Thank you for your reply. My doc doesn't want to give me the progesterone at all. My friend is a compound pharmacist & tells me it will help me sleep. I feel so frustrated! And tired.

Re: Did progesterone cream help you sleep?

The prometrium (progesterone pill) makes me very tired. I definitely can't take it every day.

The OTC progesterone cream helped me sleep a lot, made my moods better, but I started getting symptoms of testosterone being raised (hair falling out, aggression, aggitation), so I stopped it.

Re: Did progesterone cream help you sleep?

We are all different but for me...I've tried it all and found that balancing the estrogen with progesterone helped me sleep through the night. Without it, I would wake up at 1 or 2 am with a jolt and be up the rest of the night. Totally not fun.
Good luck with finding some good sleep!

JeanneMarie,
Do keep in mind that you are still very early post op. Sleep issues are a fairly common complaint during the early weeks of recovery. Your body is going thru many changes
