Recovery Time

Hi Reba! ( I love your name. It is the name of my dearest friend in the world!!)

Like you I have read post after post on recovery times, etc. Recovery time was an issue for me in planning the date for my surgery. I am off for 8 weeks during the summer. But, my doctor said that she would not release me for work for a minimum of 12 weeks - TAH/BSO/Pelvic floor support surgery. In addition she would not allow me to go back into a work situation where I would be lifting anything over 10 pounds for a year. At today's appointment she emphasized it again, saying that she would give me a statement (if needed) for a change of classroom assignment for the coming school year.

I know there are a wide range of recovery times in these posts. I, too, felt a little odd thinking some people are returning to work after 2 to 3 weeks. I just don't understand. I guess types of surgeries, age, occupation, etc. affect the recovery times. My doctor also said if I don't follow the guidelines, I could easily be in for more surgery - NO WAY. I can tolerate the doubts from others better than more surgery.

Take care. God bless.

Rayna

Hi Reba,

Oh I just couldn't resist responding...all of the sisters are right, of course—you must take your time and let your body heal.

But I have the all-time best stupid response to my announcing my surgery:

My boss is a MAN. I went into his office and told him I would be having a hysterectomy on 3/31. He picked up his calendar and said, "So, uh, that's a Friday. You'll be out all day?"

I just started laughing and said, "Ah, sweetie, I'll be out for 6-8 WEEKS!"
