Atrophic vaginitis-how long til estrogen helps?

I just started on Vagifem 3 days ago for atrophic vaginitis and constant yeast infections. While things seemed to have calmed down some and I presently don't have a yeast infection, I still have some occasional burning. How long did it take you all to respond to vaginal estrogen to the point that you no longer noticed symptoms? Also, did any of you notice that your situations would immediatly worsen after intercourse? It seemed for me that a yeast infection would always re-occur when we would resume intercourse. DH has also been treated now. I was just wondering as I have still not had sex upon going on Vagifem and I don't want to aggravate the situation until I am sure the Vagifem is doing it's thing.

I haven't had any experience using Vagifem but for some ladies it took a few weeks until it started helping. Hope you feel better soon

I know some people swear by Vagifem, but I used it daily for two or three months without any improvement. I didn't see any change until DD finally upped my oral estrogen dose. That still hasn't totally solved the issue, but has helped a lot.

Angie it took about 2-3 weeks before I really noticed that things were better down there. I am suppose to use my vaginal estrogen 2 times a week but most of the time I only manage to remember to do it once and I can tell when I only use it once because of alittle irritation after sex. So I can tell that I really should be using it twice a week like I'm suppose to. Give it some time hun and it should do its job S

Thanks for the input BrendaLee. I am supposed to use the Vagifem daily for 2 weeks then go to 3 times a week for 6 mos.
I guess since she has me on the max dose of Vagifem for 2 weeks it must take that long to completely level things out. I can say that I have gotten better though, even since this morning when I first posted this. I guess I am just too impatient. I did go back and read some info on the Vagifem and one of the side effects from it is burning and itching too (which is supposed to go away with continued useage), so maybe that is what I have now because I have noticed I wake up a little irritated in the morning and then it seems to get much better as the day wears on. Overall, I am really a lot better, just anxious to get on with a normal sex life but still feeling the need to be cautious.

GeminiSue, I also started the estrogen/progesterone cream. So maybe since I am getting it two ways I will have good success. My other doc had tried me on the Premarin cream vaginally but I never used it more than twice as it made the vaginitis worse to the point of me "cracking". My new doc said that she has found many people to be allergic to the Premarin to which she attributes being the fact that it is made from horse mare's urine. That is why she likes to use the Vagifem.

Yeast infections can often be eliminated or at least eased by taking acidophillus. You can get it at any health food store and some drug stores. It has the same live organisms as yogurt, which is often recommended, but in much higher quantities. These organisms are necessary for the health of the vagina, and also for digestive function. Try it!
