Concerned about the length of stay in the Castle

Hi everyone!!! I am writing to find out about how many days on average you spent in the "castle and if you felt it was enough. I'm really about the prospect of spending only a day or 2 in the hospital. My doctor has said that she usually keeps her patients that have TAH's only 2 days. I feel very confused about this because I have a cousin that spent 1 day in the hospital and a friend that spent 6 days. My DM spent a week in the hospital when she had her's years ago. I would like to know the average time that sisters have spent in the Castle?

Now that I got that out everything?s !!! I would like to take this time to congratulate all the ladies in waiting who this week crossed over to s
Go on and celebrate!! Here sending you bunches of and God bless you all.

Concerned about the length of stay in the Castle

- I was originally approved for 2 - 3 days in hospital..but went in on Wed. and was discharged on Sun. I could of left on Sat. but my dr. wasn't on duty over the weekend and since I'd had a temperature they decided to keep me.

Everyone is different...but if you're having problems your dr. can always keep you additional days.

Concerned about the length of stay in the Castle

I had surgery on Friday morning and left on Tuesday afternoon. A low grade fever kept me in the hospital an extra day. All together.....5 days, 4 nights.

Hey, same Sx day - yahoo!!!!

Hi Flowercrazy,
Ok - I'm feeling more connected to you especially because our Surgery day is the same! How are you coping with this all? I have no idea how many days I'll be in the hospital, do you? I'm thinking, Sx on Monday the 4th, then released on the 6th. Is this too soon? I haven't had my pre-op. My appt. is the 25th. How about you?

Concerned about the length of stay in the Castle

Hi!

I hope to finally get a surgery date on Monday when I go in to fill out all my pre-op paperwork and talk to the financial services people at the hosptial.

I will be having a SAH, and the docs have told me that all their abdominal hyst patients stay for four days at the hospital. That's their policy, no exceptions. I guess it depends upon the hospital, your doctor, your insurance company (I don't have insurance so that isn't an issue, I'll be dealing with the hospital to figure out cost and billing), and also whether or not you have any unforeseen complications.

I know vaginal and lap patients usually have a shorter stay, but I really think it's better to be on the safe side and stay a little longer with major surgery, than to get home and have complications there and have to rush back to the ER.

Only One for me

Flower -

My TAH is this Wednesday. My doctor said I would be going home on Friday during my pre-op appt. My insurance company said otherwise and they want me to go home on Thursday. I posted about this the other day. I was really angry about being what I felt was "kicked out" the day after having major surgery with a big abdominal incision. So for me, it is supposed to be only one day. I've heard through the posts here and from friends that it will probably end up being more, if the doctor decides I can't go home yet, that's the final word.

Like you said, there are lots of different stories. If I do come home I know at least I will be very well taken care of by DH and mom and dad and grown sons.

Good luck to you.

Tracy K (The sis who shares sx date with me)

Hi there, I have had one pre-sx appointment and go for a 2nd on the 27th. I asked many questions that were on the Hyster Sister ck list and will ask more at the next appointment. My says that she generally keeps her patients 2 days and I checked with my insurance and they said it's at the doctor's descretion. The hospital has a policy that if you feel like you are being released to soon to let them know and they can arrange it so that you can stay longer. I am getting a bit should I say.... anxious about the sx and I'm just ready to get it over with and on the way to feeling better. Let's keep in touch okay? Here's s to all!!!
