Nervous about having bladder worked on along with TVH

My surgery is scheduled for 2/27. I have NEVER had any kind of surgery before. I also am having my bladder fixed (slinged up)
and I'm very nervous about what to expect. I've heard some horror stories about women who have had to be catheterized for an extensive length of time. Has anyone on this site experienced the same thing and do I have to do anything differently as I recovery from the TVH? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

TAH & bladder

Hello there lovmy4

I had my TAH & bladder suspension just over 7 weeks ago, I am healing from both very well.

As for my bladder suspension. I had a cath for the 3 days in the hospital. It came out the day i went home. I was able to pee on my own with in an hour of having it removed. I had no complications with it.

This is what Dr's dont tell you. You will experience (more than likely) bladder spasms in the early part of your recovery. A need to urinate more often and some times you may have trouble getting your bladder empty..

Here is what my post op nurse told me. Drink lots of water. keep caffiene at a minimum for the first couple weeks. Try to train your bladder again. I tried to urinate no more than every 2 hours.
At week 3 post op i was no longer waking up in the middle of the night for potty breaks. Also the spasming reduced a lot by then and now nothing but a normal (none leaking bladder)

I hope some of this helps you out. This is my experience only. Please ask around and research all you can. Also good to talk in depth with your Dr about this as well..

Nervous about having bladder worked on along with TVH

Hi!

I'm one week post op from a LAVH and bladder repair/sling. I had a catheter for 2 days while in the hospital but it was removed before I went home and I was able to urinate on my own. I had one bladder spasm in the hospital while the catheter was in but have had none since then. I do notice that I am in the bathroom more often than before, but I think this is due to the volume of water I'm drinking along with the healing process. I make sure to drink lots of water and a couple glasses of cranberry juice a day.

I, like you, was more worried about the bladder repair and bringing a catheter home with me than I was about the hyst. Everything has worked out wonderfully though, and I'm sure it will for you as well!!

Cindy-Tubal Ligation

Hi Cindy:

I saw your post about your "clean-up" from your tubal ligation.

Would you mind telling me what happened with your tubal that you needed to have it cleaned up? What does that mean exactly?

I feel that most of my problems are due to my tubal, dr is kinda agreeing to a point..but I never had a laproscopy done to see if there were problems with my tubes..dr did say he will take a look when he gets in there tomorrow..but I didn't ask what if anything he would do if there were adhesions or anything on the tubes..

Thanks again.

Well, I had better get back to work.

Take Care,

TAH and Bladder

I had TAH in January. Bladder was damaged due to stage 4 endo. Urologist had to be called in during the surgery to repair bladder. I had to wear the cathater home and kept it for 6 days. I have friends who had to wear theirs longer so it's always a possibility. The only positive thing about it was I think it made me rest more because I did not want to get up and carry my bag or "purse" as my nurse called it. My bladder is healing very well and overall I feel very blessed that everthing is healing quickly. Good Luck to you!

Nervous about having bladder worked on along with TVH

Hi lovmy4,
Tomorrow I will be 6 weeks post op for a TVH and bladder repair/sling. Before surgery, I went through what you are now going through. The thought of my bladder being damaged or coming home with a catheter, my mind was going crazy with these "what ifs." I worried up to the morning of surgery and then the morning came and I was so calm. I did not have any problems at all. The catheter came out the next morning. I could pee on my own within 45 min. as if I had not had surgery. No pain, no strain, no problems. I was thanking the good Lord while I was in the bathroom. The waiting was truely the worse part for me. I had put the surgery off for several months but during that time, I gathered all the info. I could and it helped me prepare myself. This site is wonderful! Good luck and may God bless.

Nervous about having bladder worked on along with TVH

Thank you for taking the time to let me know about your experience. I'm feeling better after reading these posts.
This is truly a wonderful forum to talk with other women who have gone through or will be going through similiar procedures.
I'm going to say a prayer before surgery and put it in GOD's hands and I'm going to quit worrying about it starting right now!

Thanks again.

Nervous about having bladder worked on along with TVH

I'm glad that I found this thread. I have a uterine prolapse and difficulty urinating. I have seen 2 urogyns as well as my reg Dr. and gyn. I was scheduled for a TAH and vaginal and rectal repairs by my reg. gyn on Feb. 11, but found out about checking with urogyns so cancelled it. Both urogyns have recommended a lavh. The last one I talked to mentioned some of my pain could be caused by adhesions on my ovaries from the tubal ligation I had about 20 years ago. Is that the cleaning up that was mentioned?
I also possibly have endometriosis, so both of the urogyns told me they'd check with the laproscope and do a tah if I needed it. Here's another question. After I had my tubes tied, I had such horrible pains in my chest from the gas they used during the laproscopy. Will that pain be noticable after a lavh or am I going to be feeling so much pain in other regions that I won't care about the chest pains? Thanks, Gretchen
