I have a date!

I have my date! I’m scheduled to enter the Castle on May 21. Along time from now, I know, but necessary in order to get work things straightened out. I have a scuba diving vacation scheduled for mid-May so I thought I’d get my ducks-in-a-row at work before vacation, head to Bonaire for a week of fun in the , I’ll have my pre-op the day I get back, and then surgery the next day. I think the trip will help keep me from freaking out the week before, and I need to get the house cleaned up, etc before we leave anyway. So this way, I get my house and work in order, let the vacation take my worries away, then come back and become a !

The scheduling nurse said that my Dr already has in my charts that there will be a specialist on stand by to help her if my adhesions are too extensive or if they involve any other organs. This will be my fourth abdominal surgery – 1st in 1980 for removal of a burst appendix, 2nd 10/99 diagnostic Lap and removal of severe adhesions and endo, 3rd 8/00 Lap removal of endometrioma cyst on right ovary, further removal of adhesions that had grown attached to my ureter (?). I’ve had heavier and heavier periods for the past few years, and an almost constant throbbing dull pain in my lower right side that has sent me to the Gyn twice in the past 10 months (ultrasounds dont show anything so we suspect adhesions again). I’ll be having a TAH (due to adhesions and never given birth), and I guess it is called an RSO, because we are going to try and keep my left ovary if it looks ok.

I am 33 years old, went thru years of infertility treatments, 1 early miscarriage, but unfortunately, no successful pregnancy. My husband and I have been together for 16 years (high school sweethearts, married for 8 years) and over the past two years, we’ve become more and more comfortable accepting our lives as a childfree couple. I grieved HARD for about a year after we quit pursuing fertility treatments; grieving for the child I would never have and the pregnancy that we lost. It is still hard sometimes – really hard – to know that we cant have children of our own (adoption doesn’t seem right for us personally, although I am so happy that there are many of you out there who have become wonderful parents to adopted children). But I also know it is time to move on, accept my life the way it is, get rid of this pain, and start enjoying life!

I know I’ll lots of questions as my big day gets closer, but for now, I just want to thank everyone for all the support on this web site. So glad to have found you!

I have a date!

TamiAnn,
Great news that you got your surgery date ... I think you get the record for having the longest wait to get to surgerye! Really, this gives you lots of time to plan and prepare and I know that can be a real issue at work.
I can relate to some of the things you shared. I had my TAH/BSO about 11 weeks ago, primarily because of severe stage 4 endo. My right ovary and ureter were stuck together and both were stuck to the sidewall of peritoneum. Has your gyn said anything about having a urologist there to place stents in your ureters since you have endo and adhesions? This was done during my surgery in order to protect my ureters. If you'd like more information about this, please e-mail me.
Keep in touch over the next few months. We're here for you as you think of questions or need some support from ladies who have been there.

Beth
