Scheduled for DaVinci Hysterectomy on 3-29-13 starting to get anxious

I'm 23 years old and my doctor has NO idea what is actually wrong with me. Since Dec 2010 I have NOT had a period. I have had several D&Cs, and I took progesterone pills that didn't work and tried birth control pills that ended up putting me in the hospital with pulmonary embolisms. In Feb 2013 I started to have cysts rupture on my ovaries, so my doctor said I earned a hysterectomy. As of right now I'm only schelduled for a partial hysterectomy with the possibility of it turning into a full hysterectomy. My doctor thinks I possibly have endometriosis, but was never able to do a laparoscopic test due to me being on Coumadin until the beginning of Mar 2013.

I'm scared to have this surgery, but at the same time I'm excited to be done with the pain. I am grateful that I have a 5 year old son and a 2.5 year old daughter. I just want support knowing that I am making the right choice for me and my family, because they are affected just as much as I am.

Re: Scheduled for DaVinci Hysterectomy on 3-29-13 starting to get anxious

Wow, big problems for someone your age. It's good that you are satisfied that you have a couple of wonderful children. Unless you really just want to have it done, you may want a second opinion. If nothing else, but to assure you that you are doing the right thing. I'm also planning a DaVinci hysterectomy, but haven't set a date yet. I plan to keep my ovaries, and my cervix...

Frankly, from what you have said, it sounds like the right decision, but second opinions never hurt. I have a couple of times, thought that maybe I could continue to put up with my problem and avoid surgery, mostly because I feel like a chicken.. lol. But, then I remember why I made the decision to go ahead with it, and know it's the right decision for me. If your quality of life is affected, and your family is affected too, you're probably doing the right thing.

Re: Scheduled for DaVinci Hysterectomy on 3-29-13 starting to get anxious

Thank you. I have seen 3 different doctors since 2010, because I keep getting referred to them since no one knows whats wrong. I finally decided to call a new OB/GYN in 2011 and he's the one that has decided a hysterectomy would be a good option since I'm done having kids. I am in constant pain, so I do want to go through with it, but at the same time I'm really scared.

It really sounds like you will benefit greatly from having the proceedure. I totally understand the fear factor, because I'm there myself. This seems like a really great place to find help and reassurance, so keep on visiting, and posting any questions and keep us updated. I'll be interested in your progress.
