Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

I was in recovery and they started taking my vitals as I was waking from the anesthesia...they asked me my name and I told them then commenced to spell it out, gave them my date of birth...then I went even further by telling them my for kids' names and date of birth, spelling out their names...the nurse said "yep, she ready to go upstairs to her room"

haha! I needed this thread! funny stuff!
I have a few...
I remember being wheeled into the OR, getting on the table and the nurse leaning over me whispering in my ear that i had left my underwear on and she was going to help me get them off...I remember lifting one hip, then i was out....no clue if that was a group effort to remove them or not...and of corse I had chosen the rattiest undies i had...because i didnt think anyone would see them...

I remember the post op room...having oxygen and i didnt like it up my nose and being very angry about it...i kept telling them I was NOT sick! and needed to go home! and was trying to get out of the bed. Next thing I know I am in my room...I think they sedated me LOL

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

I have a couple funny moments that i remember..... the first one was that the nurse told me that if i could drink a lot of water that she would take my cath out at midnight. If i could go pee and go so much (they measured in that pee cup thing lol) that she woul not have to put it back in. So I'm all bring on the water. Midnight comes she takes it out and its all good. The funny is that everytime i got up to pee that night (which i did a lot-all that water u see) i went for a stroll down the hall- i was tired of laying in bed. My night nurse passed me in the hall a few times and she said there she is and smiles. I smiled back and said i peed for ya. She just laughed! Now my morning nurse wascoming outmy room when i came back fro my early morning stroll she says oh there you areand frowns. I liked my overnight nurse a lot better my next funny was afteri got home.... i hada dream where i was worried about the dreaded bm and not being able to go..... well in my dream i just KNEW that the dr had got the glue that she closed my incission with on my bum and THAT was why i couldnt go! My dreaming self was trying to figure out how to look for it cause we cant see our bum right .....and how in the WORLD i was gonna get it off so i could go!LOL..... woke up going what in the world percocet makes some crazy dreams !

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

These are so funny....

My consultant surgeon came in to see me about 7hrs after the op. as he was walking away he said 'AND YES MY JOB IS COMPARABLE TO A POST MAN'..... I had no idea what was talking about, then I'd dawned on me!!!!

OMG - quoted me 'you compared my job to that of a painter and decorator going through the letter box'

I had a TVH Hysterectomy so in my heavily sedated state this must have been hilarious for them to hear, it certainly made his day - I think?

My second one was within the first hour or so on the ward and I noticed a chap I recognised from work who I work with regularly. He seated opposite with his girlfriend who was a patient too.

We nodded hello (we wear uniforms at work, so a bit conscious of the 'gown' and not my 'go get em' normal self) and then asked him to undo the window as I wasn't feeling too good.

He offered to fetch our nurse but it was too late.....

I'd been laying flat on my bed (low blood pressure) and then I was repeatedly sick all over my head and chest....

All I remember saying is 'that's not my finest hour is it!'

I've seen him since and he's laughing with me about it.... I'm normally not a needy person and he saw my softer side of sick and tears that day. A lovely chap too!!

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

Mom was visiting me and we heard "fire in the c section department" and I said...what the..? This was over the loud speakers. Then it said this is a drill. So we stayed put then.."please exit the building" lol we were confused. Turns out it must have been a drill but when my dr showed up to discharge me I couldn't help but check him out to see if anything was singed lol...he was scrubbed up! Lol!

Ok, i was parinoid about the catheter,I kept telling the night nurse there was something wrong with it because i felt terribly wet down below, she said it was flowing into the container fine, then she said ill take a look, well she started peeling off layers of blankets. i had 6 of them on, she said honey you are sweating!!! I was freezing after surgery and never took them off!!

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

My funniest moment came when the ultrasound tech came up about 10:30 pm to check my bladder to see if it was empying properly after my first or second time. She's making small talk and asked me "So have you ever had a hysterectomy here before?". I kind if had to do a double take, but then looked at her and said......"Nope...just this one". I think she realized what she said at that point and mumbled something about being a long day. No kidding...for me too! I have to admit when she left the room, I literally LOL'd! It's been a great story to share too...many laughs have been had about it.

Re: Funny moments from hospital stay...add yours!

When I was taken to my room after recovery, my 2 children, my estranged husband, my mother, and mother-in-law were there waiting for me. The nurses were doing what it is they do when they're getting a new patient. According to everyone, I kept yelling that I had to pee. They tried telling me I had a catheter, but I wasn't having it. I had to pee and no one would help me.

On a sadder note, I also told my estranged husband that I loved him and that I wanted us back together. As soon as my daughters and mother told me what I did, I had to call him and tell him it was the drugs talking. Although, I do love him as my child's father we cannot get back together. I think it hurt him all over again. I felt bad.
