just a thanx

thanx for the advice. Believe me, that experience was one well imprinted in my brain and learned by. It's funny aye? how we forget about the herbs sometimes, well at least I do. If I would have known about this site prior to probably wouldn't have taken place (the cancellation I mean)...I would have had a reminder. I had a complete hyst. this year, with the exception to leaving me an ovary...I took absolutely nothing that would affect my surgery date...and it went quite well...thanx againLJ

Did some research....

Just wanted to say that I talked to my doctor's office and the response was that if the ibuprofen or acetaminophen has been taken 3-4 days before surgery....and only one dose per day...that there is no problem. However, the nurse asked if I took either medication regularly(which I don't) and said NOT to take any the day before surgery(My surgery is tomorrow morning)...Also talked to the pre-op nurse at the hospital who felt that ibuprofen/acetaminophen was not a problem. Then I got a hold of two different pharmacists at separate times who explained further that the ibuprofen I took last Friday was not only a low dose(one time 600 mg.) but that it would be out of my system by 7:30am Wednesday when I had surgery. Phew.

I fully agree with every opinion on this thread given by those wise hystersisters who caution against the use of ANYTHING that would interfere with surgery. I think they are absolutely right. You would think after all the surgeries I have had...L4/5, C6/7, carpal tunnel on both hands, 3 D&Cs(one with a tubal ligation), 3 root canals, tonsillectomy(I was only 6 at the time)...and at my age(50) that I would know better!!! Oh, well. Just goes to show I am doing the best I can with a new challenge!!

Thanks so much for all the responses. Hope this additional bit of insight encourages anyone reading the thread to do what the Hystersisters always recommend...Talk with your doctor and get the straight scoop for your own individual case. There is no subsitute for being a well-educated patient.

Hope to meet some of you again on the Post-Op side after I return from the castle!

God Bless,

enbeejay :

Acetominophen and ibuprofen before surgery...

Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth here: At my
pre-op visit I was told to stop taking ADVIL/ ALEVE (ibuprofin)
10 days before my surgery. Tylonal is ok if necessary. The nurse explained that we "needed to get those blood vessels closed up".
