Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy
I am scheduled surgery on 3/12. I was looking on the net today and found out about laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy? I am trying to see if I can find a doctor in L.A. CA who could do this procedure. My GYN wants to do abdominal hyster. with a vertical cut to remove my 10cm cut. I am concerned that she may not know how to do LAVH and that it why it was not presented to me as an option. I really dred having a vertical scar on my body.
Anyone with info re this procedure or an LA doctor - please advise.

talk to your doctor
I would give the doc a call and tell her you have done some research and come across the LAVH and see if it is an option for you. There may be a reason she isn't doing the procedure vaginally (for instance if you want to keep your cervix a vaginal hyst isn't for you). I would talk to my doctor first to find out the reasons for the procedure she chose and then go from there. Best of luck!

Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy
I just had an LAVH on Feb. 1st. I'm doing great. You didn't specify what symptoms were causing you to have a hyster. Your options depend on what you have. You should ask your dr. if an LAVH is an option. If it is an option but his/her response gives you doubts about his/her abilities--then yes, you should check into getting another dr. Because if you can have it done w/ a laparscope, then that should be your first choice since it is less invasive with less recovery time. I wish I could recommend someone to you, but I'm not from CA (wish I were!). I happened to be talking with a co-worker when she told me about her dr. who was an expert with the laparascope. My previous dr. just kept telling me to stay on the pill--even though I was in so much pain I could hardly walk! Even after I found a new & better dr., I still had to INSIST on a referral. So ask friends, co-workers, relatives--even call up nurses that you don't even know and ask them. Find the best dr. you can. But like I said, it depends on your symptoms as to what kind of procedure you'll need. And even with a scheduled LAVH, there is still the possibility that it could turn in to an abdominal incision if you have large fibroids or extensive problems that weren't previously known.
Good luck!

Fibroids
I mean 10cm fibroid. I typed "cut" by mistake. Sorry.

Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy
I'm not familiar w/ fibroids but a 10 cm. fibroid sounds awfully large. Sorry, but I would be surprised if an LAVH is an option for you under the circumstances. However you should at least ask your dr. about it anyway. Whether you have an abdominal, or not, it still sounds like you need some relief and fast! Just keep thinking about how much better you will feel after it's over and done with & you are all healed up!
Best wishes!

LAVH
I'm wondering if you would be a candidate for Supracervical Lap assisted hysterectomy. You keep your cervix and ovaries but the uterus is removed via lap incisions. (Its actually "shredded" by a machine called a morcellator.) My gyn is doing this procedure and one of my fibroids measured 9cm. You might consider asking about this procedure...probably the gyn would need to be certified not only in lap procedures but the morcellator as well.
Good Luck,
Blondi

Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy
I have an 11 cm. fibroid and my dr. told me that one that size is too large to be removed thru the vaginal area. That may also be the case with you.
My surgery is March 11. Can't wait for it to be over with and my problems to be gone.
Good luck with yours!

Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy
Hi there and Hugs. I had a LAVH/RSO and bladder repair in Sep last year. Being from New Zealand I can not help you with reccomending a DR, except to say that mine was just the best Lol.
I had a very enlarged uterus and fibroids and she managed to get it all out.
I think it is a more specialised thing and you may be right that your surgeon has not the skill to do it. But look around and maybe get other surgeons opinions to. I am really glad that mine was done this way, no complications with the hyst at all and feel good. hugs and good luck Vicki
