Total Vaginal Hysterectomy - Good Story So Far

First of all - this site has been is an absolute network of angels. Anytime I have had questions, it has been the first site I go to.

The night before and morning of my hysterectomy I was quite anxious. I was scheduled for an 8.30am opp. Checked in at the hospital at 7am and was prepped and being wheeled into pre surgery at 8am and into the theatre at 8.45am, nervous as hell. Had a gorgeous female anaethetist who was just wonderful. My gyno has treated me for the last 10 years and is just a beautiful human being who delivered one of my three children. He held my hand as I was put to sleep.

The actual procedure took about 1 1/2 hours. Woke up in recovery in a little pain (which of course is all foggy now in my memory). Wheeled into my own room around 1pm with a catheter in place and those leg pump things to keep your circulation going. Slept on and off all day with oxygen and a drip. Wasn't in too much pain as the hysterectomy was done vaginally. The catheter was taken out next morning along with the vaginal pack (which is like a concertina bandage that gets pulled out gently). Nurses were fantastic. BP was on the low side for the first two days. Best thing to do is to eat and drink when you can to get it back up and get some strength back.

Got myself up for a shower the next morning (day 2) and although a little unsteady on my feet still felt pretty good. Just sore getting in and out of bed and turning over.

Was home on the afternoon of day 3 with some Endone and Neurofen (Voltaren made me sick).

Day 4-7 were probably the worst for me. Felt so good the first few days so I amped myself up on day 4 and did too much (too much bending, sitting, getting up and down, etc).

Now in week 2 and feeling loads fresher, more comfortable and off pain meds for the most part. Still taking the second week easy to ensure this surgery (for adenomyosis) is totally successful and is the last gynaecological surgery I have (previous tubal ligation and endometrial ablation, along with years of heavy periods, pain, etc, etc).

I wish everyone the best recovery. Take it easy on yourself and enjoy your lounge time as best you can. xx
