ANYONE TRIED CRANBERRY PILLS FOR UTIs?

HI,

Has anyone out there tried the over the counter cranberry pills for urinary tract infections?

I saw some at the pharmacy the other day and wondered if they worked better than drinking cranberry juice.

I have already had a 2000 mg/day dose of antibiotics and have held the pain at bay by drinking water and cranberry juice since I stopped the meds a week ago.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

By the way, has anyone tried the Menopause Relief Creme by Dr. Helen Pensanti? I have been using it for the past few days with good results so far. It is a natural progesterone/estrogen cream since I was leery of the estradiol my dr. prescribed for me after surgery (breast cancer in both of my grandmothers).

Cranberry?

Don't expect any nutritional replies of substance here. My attempts at recommending pre-op fasting and post-op lemon water dosing were deleted by the powers that be. Allow me to try again...

I am 50 years old and have never had a urinary tract infection. I have also never had a "yeast" infection. This may be attributable to my daily intake of garlic and ginger, along with berries, and an assortment of fruits and vegetables. Chewing real food is no more trouble than chewing the junk. Anyone who thinks they need a "stool softener" had best head for the nearest library.

One look at those hospital "food trays" was worth 10,000 words. Thank goodness I was able to have my food brought in. Fruits, veggies, soy milk... whole grains.

Best wishes, Berta

Although I have never had a urinary tract infection either, I don't take the supplements you recommend which underscores that we all live different lifestyles, have different diets and have different healing and recoveries. Kind words are always recommended when suggesting alternatives.

Additionally, no posts of yours have been deleted.

And as always, please check all suggestions by members and hostesses with your personal medical doctor when changing diets and adding supplements before and after your surgery. Thank you ***

ANYONE TRIED CRANBERRY PILLS FOR UTIs?

Hi Tee Wee I haven't try the cranberry pills and have found cranberry juice to be effective with the one UTI I had, when I was Pre-Op. Before trying any OTC meds, including natural products, please be sure to talk to your doctor first. Some meds can interact adversely with all the meds and anesthesia used in the castle.

Not being in menopause, I haven't tried the "Menopause Relief Creme" either.

Hopefully, someone will come along with insight on these products.

Berta: I'm so sorry you've been having problems posting. Hopefully you'll find your posts soon. We at Hystersisters do not delete posts unless they are going against the guidelines of the website

Regarding nutrition aspects of recovery, you have to remember that we all have different procedures for different reasons and these will have an impact on our recovery. Also, it is important for women to consult their doctor regarding all aspects of their recovery, including nutritional aspects, since it may have an impact on their care requirements.
