What if my ovaries don't wake up? I'm a wreck!

3 weeks post op today (LAVH, kept ovaries) and I woke up drenched from night sweats.

My doctor assured me my ovaries were healthy and he "didn't touch them."

Can it take this long for them to kick back in? Anything I can do to speed up the process?

Amy

I am two weeks post op, kept both ovaries and also am having crazy night sweats. I don't have a solution, but can relate!

Re: What if my ovaries don't wake up? I'm a wreck!

I actually haven't had any problems with night sweets, or hot flashes since my surgery. I was having terrible hot flashes for years before my surgery though (in my 20's!), but they seem to have gone away for now.
I have been suffering from extreme mood swings and depression though.
I've read that it can take up to a few months for them to start working again, but I don't know for sure what the typical amount of time is.
I can only suggest talking to your doctor about it, and if they don't offer any help, get a second opinion.

Yes it can take that long. I think this is my first week to not have night sweats. I'm 7 weeks today. Just give it some time. I also kept my ovaries.

Me too. I've been having horrible hot flashes and roller coaster emotions. The nurse at my doctor's office told that there is no way that I could be having hot flashes because I still had my ovaries. Grrrrrr. I'm hoping I settle down soon cause it's exhausting to feel this way - I'm sending good thoughts your way!

I lost my hot flushes/flashes about 6 1/2 week mark. Hang in there sisters. Now I'm getting PMS mood swings. Sigh, You can't win sometimes.

Re: What if my ovaries don't wake up? I'm a wreck!

I just asked my surgeon this same question and he said it can take 2-3 months. So far I have not had any hot flashes or signs of ovaries being asleep (tomorrow will be 3 weeks post-op), but I've got a good 20 pounds to lose so I figure I'm probably loaded with estrogen stores that will hold me for awhile, lol.
