scared to death

hi everyone,i found this site by coincidence looking for more info. on is fabulous, what a team. i'm schedule to have sah on april 22, 2002, because abnormal
and heavy bleading, accompanied by blood clots, back pain and a lot of cramps. i have
been anemic for the past 4 years, and very anemic this year( last time cbc test
hemoglobin 8, they want it to do blood transfusions) but i did not want that. so doctor
send me to ob/gyn specialist, run all kind of tests everything is normal thanks god. but
bleeding for 11 to 14 days was not fun, put me on hormones for two months helped a
little bit, but i don't want to be the rest of my life on that because side effects. plus i
had enough with this situation, it is affecting my life with friends, family and hb. my doctor
and i decided to keep my ovaries, (i'm 35 years old) so i don't go to early menopause.
the doctor told be is going to be in my tummy, where my two c-sections were performed.
i'm very scared a lot of people have tell me a lot of bad stories, plus i'm very scared of
the gas pain, (i know how bad it can get). i have a lot of support from my family and
friends, but the waiting is killing me. thanks for letting me be part of this special forum.

All us LIWs go through exactly the same thing. Fear takes over when we least expect it. Waiting is hard ... according to the ladies who've been crowned, the waiting was the hardest of all of it.

Keep posting and reading, it's what gets us through.

Hello MerenLady

Hello - I thought I would let you know....

I had three csections-horizontal cuts- before my tah/bso. The hyster is a vertical cut.

Honestly, for me, the pain was worse from my csections. I don't know why this was, but the pain of my hyster was less. Maybe I was in so much pain before, anything was a relief....I don't know.

Anyway the fears you mentioned are real, but counter them with knowledge about your upcoming surgery. You might want to check out the chat site as well as posts. There are a lot of pre ladies who come to chat, as well as post ladies who are there, everyone supporting each other.

I hope you find good support here. I just know you will. RobinS

scared to death

hello merenlady,
you sounded just like me when i was a LIW. I'm going 37 on march and had the same problems you did, exactly the same.

My problem pretty much started last fall of 2000, and progressed real fast for the next 6 months and it was hell since then. I've been in and out of the dr.'s office complaining about an abnormal, long periods and fatigue. First of all, I have been going to a not so good facility and not so good staff, why i said that, the last time i was seen by this woman (P.A.) and her nurse... and they've already done tests on why I bled soooo much, no findings, she was doing aother PAP on me, put the very uncomfortable duck beak I called it ( I'm having a slight brain fog and can't remember names) in my you know what... looked at her nurse and said "Hmmmm. what do you think we should do this time?", turned around, went to the computer with her nurse and try to decide what they going to do. Mean time I was there spread out with that duck beak in me. I never went back since then.

When I had my sonogram (vaginally) they found Multiple Massive Fibroids and that they said is what's causing the bleeding. I am anemic too, ended up in the ER once and found my count to be down to 7. Was put on LUPRON for 2 months and didn't get the 3rd shot due to not stopping the and clotting at all (which is what it's supposed to do) and having a lot of adverse effects and for that I refused to take the last shot before surgery. This female problems of mine had taken over me, my family and my life. I did almost lost my husband due to he did'nt understand what was going on and I didn't either, so I could'nt explain to him why I was like I were. Thank God I found my GYN Dr., she is soooo great. By the way, she is my second opinion. My orig. GYN is a very reputable, well recommended DR. he was right on everything that he said what's going on and what's going to happen. I wanted a second opinion anyway, coz we're talking about a major surgery here and he's bedside manners *****. So that's how I ended up with my Lady Dr. and I am very pleased.

The plan was to keep my cervix which we did and the ovaries, but sad to say when she's there and checking everything, she found what she thinks are endo on my right ovary, so goodbye right ovary for me. At least I still have one more and it's doing just fine.

I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and doing great. I'm slowly getting my life back and my family, specially hubby. He went to all of my appts. and had been there all the time since then.

Don't worry about the gas pains, that is nothing compaired to what we're going through with that bleeding and clotting. As long as you drink plenty of water and walk, walk, walk, and alittle help with either gas -ex or mylanta (for gas) with the permission of your Dr. of course.... EVERYTHING WILL BE JUST FINE.

TRUE, THE WAITING IS THE WORST PART. Just keep yourself busy making all the arrangements, shopping, organizing, planning for the castle date and all, specially recovery time since you won't be able to do much. Do and take care of as much as you can now.

Plenty of support is good and anytime you need questions answered or just needed to talk, log in and there's always sisters around to help out and give such loving, understanding support. Try to get in the chat room too. Take Care and don't worry, be happy. ****mary****

Hi. I had my hyster done on my C-section scar....and the scar looks a lot better this time. It's my understanding that they'll use our scars if possible. A vertical scar is often used if they're worried about cancer because they don't want to risk spreading disease. If there's not a big concern about it, they'll use an horizontal, or in our case, the old scar.

Good luck!

Scared to Death Too

Hi - just found this site myself this afternoon looking for anything about hysterectomy. Doctor told me last week I had to have it done soon and I'm still trying to come to grips with the idea. My date is April 2nd. My problem is a prolapsed uterus for the last 7 or so years that cannot be ignored any longer. If it goes on too long there can be incontinence problems and others too. I'm thankful that it's not a disease but it's still scarey. I'm not crazy about being put to sleep - my procedure will be 3-4 hours and I'm scared about recovery. I don't personally know anyone who's had one so I'm alone in this. I do get to keep my ovaries and it's being done vaginally instead of abdominally so maybe it won't be so bad. The thought of laying around for weeks with a husband, 2 daughers, a dog, a cat and a guinea pig on their own is almost as scarey as the surgery! Anyway, write if you feel like chatting with someone just as scared as you are.

scared to death

Dear godiva,

I was as scared as you about being put out for this, so much so that I ended up having it done abdominally while I was awake instead of the LAVH I was supposed to have. I had a lap. surgery done about 6 months before and got really sick from the anesthesia. As it turned out it was all the pain med. they give you afterwards that made me sick.... who knew? Anyway my surgery was about 2 1/2 hours long, I also had a prolapsed uterus, along with some other things. I did keep the ovaries, and it's been 3 weeks today and I'm feeling much better! It was not as bad as the anticipation for it! My sister-in-law had one done vaginally and was back to work 2 weeks later! There is hope!

Good luck,
