I must thank everyone on this site, it has been a powerhouse of thought provoking information. :

I felt as though I was really ready when I went to my gyn today. I had a hysteroscopy, removal of a fibroid and D&C last Nov. and we were hoping that my problems had been fixed. I was still left with a 16 week sized uterus due to multiple fibroids.

Recently I started having debilitating pains unrelated to the menstrual cycle. I had another US which showed that the fibroids were now 'multiple large fibroids, the largest measuring 14cm' there is also a cyst on both ovaries, the right one having at least 'one internatl septation'. I knew in my heart that a hysterectomy was on the cards. I am 44 and certainly beyond childbearing - I have three beautiful girls.

My surgery date could be as early as 22 March which would be very convenient as I am a school teacher and we have two weeks hols over Easter. Otherwise it will be 10 April - not so convenient as school will just have gone back and I'll have to take a big chunk of the term on sick leave. It's really out of my hands but please keep me in your thoughts for the 22 March.

Thanks soooooooo much for this wonderful site.

Dear Diana,

I'm sorry that you are having such pain, and hope that your surgery will be scheduled for the March 22nd date so that you will be out of pain sooner.

But you should plan to be out of work for longer than the two weeks that you mentioned. This is major surgery and you should plan for a 4 to 6 week, and maybe even 8 week recovery before going back to work. (I was out for 5 1/2 weeks).

Please let us know how you are and what you and your doctor have decided.
