Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Diagnosed last week waiting to hear about surgery date. I have 3 sisters who have had hysterectomies for endometrial cancer. My mom had colon cancer along with 2 sisters and a brother. Numerous first cousins with colon cancer plus my moms two sisters had endometrial cancer. Anyone have any experience with lynch syndrome? Our docs think we have it

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

I had a tah/bso on June 10nth. I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer 1a 1. I have no experience with lynch syndrome. However, I have wondered if endometrial cancer can be hereditary as I also have other family members who have had it in the past. Good luck to you with your treatment and recovery.

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

There are Lynch ladies here, a few. Your family does sound suspicious for it. Genetic testing can give you answers. They tested my tumor for Lynch markers. It was negative in my case. If you can get tested, it sounds like a good idea. Then if needed, you could get on a testing schedule. I hope you get answers soon.

I don't have any personal experience to share but wanted to suggest doing some searches here on our forum as there have been many previous discussions on this topic. Hopefully, you'll find some useful information and/or someone who can share her experience will stop by soon.

We're very sorry you're facing all of this but are glad you found us!

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Sorry to hear of your family's history! I am a Lynchie! After 18 years of thinking I did not have the mutation I just recently found out I do. I am scheduled for 'prophylactic' hysterectomy on the 10th. This is something that should have been done ten years ago. ( I am 50) I am now VERY concerned that whenthe doc gets in there he will find cancer. Many reasons for those concerns, not being paranoid. If you need a good web reference check out Lynch Syndrome International. They have a wonderful site. Definately get tested, especially if you have children. We have five different cancers in our family and it is very scary to think of passing this on to your children!
Good luck with everything!

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Scheduled for surgery oct 11th. I have consultation with the surgeon this afternoon. I have written questions I want to ask. Not sure yet what type of surgery I'm having. I just want what type would be best to make sure cancer has not spread. One of my sisters, when they did surgery were shocked to see cancer had spread to her ovary and lymph glands.

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Salban, good luck with your surgery. It was unusual for the cancer to have spread for my sister. I wish I was having surgery sooner than oct 11th. I can't imagine what my anxiety level will be by then. I also want to have a colonoscopy before. Hopefully just to give me piece of mind

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Colonoscopy is good idea in case they find anything. You might be able to take care of both if need be. That's what my gi suggested anyway.

Re: Endometrial cancer and connection to lynch syndrome

Hi Peggy,

I'm sorry to hear your news and you are wise to try to learn more re lynch syndrome. I suspect your doctor will suggest testing for it if he learns of your family history and if not do ask him about this. Having a colonoscopy also sound like a very wise move.

I also second monami's suggestion to search lynch syndrome on this forum as I know we've had quite a few women who have asked about this and in fact found they have it.

Pls keep us update.
