Depression after surgery?

I am scheduled to have surgery on Monday. I go for preop today and know that alot of my questions will be answered then. My big fear is depression after surgery.. My life has been very stresfull lately partially because of my health stuff. I am concerned that after the op I will hit a low. Is this usual and is there any preventitve stuff you can do or coping skills that will help. I am handling lots of stuff now quite well but wonder about being in a weaker state etc. Does anyone else worry about this? or am I just weird. Thanks Lori Mcr Calgary Canada

Depression after surgery?

Hi Lori! You are not weird!! Many women worry about depression after any type of surgery. I've been dealing with depression and anxiety for many years now off and on, and have been on medication in the past. My TAH/BSO was on 2/13/02 and I'm feeling really good. So far no problem with the depression. Sure, I've had some crying spells, but it was just normal emotional stuff.

Good luck with your surgery on Monday and I'll be praying for you. Try to take it easy this weekend and don't worry too much. Just relax, take a nice relaxing bath and have fun!

s to you!
