Pre-Op advice for Post-Op recovery

So I'm 4 days post op and here is my pre-op advice. Of course consult with your doctor as everyone is different but you might suggest this regimen as it worked for me.

My doctor suggested liquid diet the day before with Ducolax at noon, 3pm and 6pm followed by an enema at 9pm. I felt pretty cleaned out before my surgery. I also did not eat anything until 2 days after my surgery. My doctor didn't let me even have ice chips because any time you eat or drink anything, it creates gas in your body with every gulp and that can be as painful as the surgery itself. The IV had nutrients in them and quite frankly, I wasn't all that hungry. I finally had a liquid diet the night before and the morning before I left to go home. I've been on a soft diet since. My doctor suggested no soft diet until I feel gas and I have so I've only had breast of chicken and srambled eggs. No fiber, veggies, fruit, etc until I have a bowel movement. I definitely feel some things happening down there but so far nothing just yet. My doc suggested Milk of Magnesia if by Sunday or Monday I haven't had a BM. In my case, my doctor had to scrape my bowels because I had such bad endometriosis so they are "angry" as my doctor put it. It will take some time for them to come around. But tooting is always a good sign.

I would also recommend if you get nausea with anesthesia - which I do - think about something other than the pump for pain. I had it and got horribly sick. Vicodin worked perfectly well and even Advil gel caps - which is what I'm on now - has been actually the best for pain control.

Good luck to all my hyster sisters. Even at 4 days post op - I feel really great. It's worth it - and actually not that difficult. Easier than I expected. This site helped with that!
