Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

I just rifled through my laptop bag at work and found ... *drumroll*

THREE ALWAYS PADS!

Which I NEVER NEED TO USE EVER AGAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!!!!

I just handed them to one of our fantastic admins -- I don't know if she uses them as opposed to tampons, but HALLELUJIAH!!!!!!!!!!

I was unable to refrain from doing an endzone dance after I handed them to her, which she got a kick out of. :-)

I'm going to be finding these things on and off all over the place, I think ... HAAAA-hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Okay, so how long were you finding emergency stashes of pads and tampons afterwards? I'm six weeks out.

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

Passed most of my "stash" along to my daughter, but kept some pads/liners just in case my first post-op INTERNAL exam stirs things up in there (scheduled 12-12-13). I am a bit concerned about the appointment as I have had zero post-op bleeding to date, lucky me. I wonder if the lack of any bleeding was because I had a TAH/BSO (everything removed including cervix). The only thing that remains is my vagina. I have read on this site where some women had no problems with their first post-op internal exam, but others have stated it was painful, caused bleeding and cramping, etc. I hope everything goes okay with the exam as I hope to be released to return to my full-time job on 12-16-13. Your posts crack me up, Crone:-). Best wishes on your recovery!

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

I will be four weeks post op tomorrow, and yesterday I found a stash of pads and tampons in my purse. I was about to throw them away, but something held me back. I think I am finding it hard to believe that I really don't need them anymore...but when it really hits me that it is true, that I no longer need them, it will feel so good to let them go!

Hugs!

That was my initial reaction as well. No no, don't throw them out ... you just might need them! It's completely irrational, but it really feels like I'm taking a chance or something.

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

That's funny....I found them stashed in my car glove box, all my purses had them hidden in the side pouches and when I returned to work today I found them in my desk and my cubby! I donated them all to the school nurse...she always needs them for the girls. Such a freeing feeling to not NEED them anymore! Congratulations Ladies!!

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

What's preventing me from getting rid of them is that I actually still need them since I still have discharge. The other aspect is somebody who visits might need them or ask me for one and it would be weird not to have any. Or what if one of my daughters needs one?

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

I laughed at BornACrone's comment that you kept thinking you might someday need them. I had almost exactly the same experience and thought process yesterday!

I think we will find them every time we do something we have not done for a while, where we have to use a different bag or supplies. For example, I am 4 weeks postop, and yesterday was the first day I went back to church. I have one bag I always take to church, and sure enough, there were supplies lurking in there. I suspect that when I get out the pool bags this summer, there the little helpers will be. Or in the dressy evening purse, when I finally really go out again. Or in the travel kit over spring break with the kids. Etc.

It really is a great feeling knowing i will not need them again, but deep down, it does really feel like maybe I will still need them, which just shows how bad things were, that i was always worrying about my periods.

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

I even found pads hidden in my car, desk at work, misc. bags and purses for up to a year after my hysterectomy. I had trouble finding a recipient who needed the jumbo size. So glad that is all behind me now! I too did a happy dance when they left my house!

Re: Finding old stashes of pads in various places?

I unearthed a stash of tampons whilst going through a travel bag just before Christmas, 9 months out. Now whilst i'm still hanging onto a few pads (security blankets!) i took great delight in flinging them by their strings onto an open fire. Ha ha, did i enjoy watching those suckers go up in smoke.

For those concerned that the above was sheer wanton waste, any shop-sealed articles went to my local homeless shelter :-)
