NEED ADVICE! 12/18 da vinci LSH MIGHT BE CANCELLED B/C LOW POTASSIUM

Hello,

I'm scheduled to have my da vinci LSH tomorrow (12/18 at 11 am in MD) and I was just told by my gyn that the surgery may be postponed as my potassium levels are low (3 is my number; 3.5 is normal). My pre op was 12/16 which is why we're just now finding out.

Has anyone else been in similar shoes? If so, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why they can't give you potassium pills to bring up your level? My mom has had low potassium and was given pills, she was told her level should come up right away. Would that not be an option for you? I would ask your Dr, as my understanding is that is an easy situation to fix. Best wishes all goes on schedule.

Yes, ask for pills. They decided my potassium was low while I was in overnight post-op and added it to my IV. It was excruciating, the only truly painful part of this whole adventure. Thought my arm was on fire. The nurse said, "this might sting a little".

Many thanks for the helpful replies! I just spoke with my gyn and she said to take 6 over the counter protein supplements today (2 per each meal) and I should be fine for the morning! I appreciate your help and will hope for the best. Happy holidays!
