How do you know?

Has anyone gone in for a regular 'ol TAH/BSO for enlarged uterus / fibroids / endo and received a report of cancer? I guess that is just one of my totally unsubstantiated, irrational fears I am having prior to my April 1 surgery.

Since i am adopted, I have no known family history. And no other surgeries or treatments have been bad.

Just wondering. Seems like my belly just got larger faster this last year (probably fibroids per the doc).

How do you know?

Caroline, I had my hysterectomy because of precancerous cells on my cervix, so I already had that fear but I am sure lots of girls do have that worry in the back of their mind.

Lots of fears run through your mind when facing surgery. At the time of mine, my biggest fear was that I wouldnt wake up . Totally irrational but perfectly normal so try not to worry too much but it may be a good idea to mention your fears to your gyn. To put your mind at ease.

Big hugs and please.. anytime you need some support , we are here x x

How do you know?

Hi Caroline:
I was just wondering if you had an ultrasound done to show the enlargement was caused by fibroids. Or were the fibroids diagnosed by the doctor pressing on your abdomen?
I think probably everyone facing surgery has a little thought of possibly cancer? Only human nature.
Wishing you all the best.

Hi Caroline

I wanted to say hello and offer a

I think cancer is a strange thing, we worry about it, yet somehow think it won't happen to us. Most of the gynecological cancers only happen to 1%-2% of all women. It seems like a small number and I am so glad it is not higher. I never expected to be the 1%. I worried about breast cancer like most women but never gave my paps etc., a second thought. Who knew.

I too am adopted so we just don't know what to be on the look out for.

My stomach seemed to be distended alot the past few months. I do believe it was from an enlarged uterus, a uterine mass, 3 big cysts and a fibroid. Many women have had all or some of those with NO cancer. I came back from the hospital 10 pounds lighter with all they took out.

I knew I had Endometrial Cancer when I had my surgery. Fortunately for me they caught it very early and I need no more treatments. They did find a pre-cancerous condition on my cervix when everything was biopsied after surgery. And my Pap had just come back normal.

I hope you don't really need us for anything more. But we're here if you do.

And drop in anytime for 's.

Shelley
