Just got surgery date Jan 21 not I really feel sick :(

Hello everyone, I am fairly new here and I just received my surgery date of Jan. 21 this morning. I have a appointment with gyno on Fri to ask more questions. My doc appointment was not supposed to be until Jan 24th but that would have been a little late to get more information. I have not really had much time to prepare, and I am hoping I am doing the right thing. I have not told anyone about this yet except hubby, and he just keeps saying it is up to you. I feel a little frustrated, and alone right now. I know he wants the best for me, but I am looking for some reassurance that this is a good thing to do. I have had a cyst removed from ovary 20 yrs ago that was huge, ablation that pretty much stopped the periods, but the pain is aweful at times, and always bloated, and achy. Sorry for going on for forever but really hoping this is going to help me feel better, and that I am not rushing into things.

Re: Just got surgery date Jan 21 now I really feel sick :(

I felt so much better after mine - it was a huge relief to no longer have that constant crampy feeling. It was shocking: I felt so much better the second day after surgery that one of the nurses high-fived me. It was definitely worthwhile surgery to have.

Re: Just got surgery date Jan 21 now I really feel sick :(

In your shoes, I'd be doing exactly the same thing. Now of course maybe I'm biased since I also had a hyst :-) but I had only a giant fibroid. Sure, it got in the way and ultimately had to be evicted, but I felt no pain, and strangely enough, my periods while heavier had actually gotten LESS painful as the thing grew. I had horrible cramps as a kid, but by the time I got my uterus kicked out at the age of 47, I had pretty much no cramps at all.

YOU have pain, YOU have serious discomfort. I'd make the same decision you're making in a heartbeat.

. Hello. Glad I found your question. I too have a hyst on Jan 21st. Had pre-op a few days ago & my doc said I am so calm. Well, since then I've had moments of anger, tears. & fear. I have 3 fibroids w/ long-term heavy bleeding & pretty severe anemia. Already had surgery & made decision not to put my body through anymore. Just one final last step. Afterwards, I have a strong feeling that I'll be relieved & happy & healthy again. Think what we're feeling is normal. I too haven't said to a lot of people what I'm doing. This site has helped. Good luck to you.

Re: Just got surgery date Jan 21 now I really feel sick :(

To come to the aid of you feeling alone. Sometimes hubby's just don't understand. He may not know what to say so It's up to you is the only thing he can say that comes close to support. Only you can really know if this is what you should do or not. Sometimes sharing your thoughts with a girlfriend you can trust is the easiest because they are a girl and can relate to the "Misbehaved monthly bleed:? I know this can be a hard surgery to just blurt out aloud, but I have found talking about it helped. I too had the hardest time opening up about my surgery. My husband is VERY supportive, but was at a loss of words when I needed him the most because of his own worries and fears. So I had to turn to this site, friends, family, and my doctor and just asked questions to prepare.

The wait and not knowing will drive you mad. Make you second guess your decision. Feel like you are making a mistake, and that the worst case is going to be you. I tried EVERYTHING under the sun to get some control in my female area. Nothing worked. I have my Hyst on Nov 20th 2013 and are healing up nicely. I am glad I did it.

Thank you for replying What did you have to do at pre-op ? I haven't been told to do anything yet. Maybe they are waiting for me to see my gyno on Friday when I make my final decision about surgery. Just wondering if you have the same always feel bloated , and hard to sit down without pain? I hoping it's not all in my head I am quite slim, and when I say " oh a feel bloated, people say, look how thin you are" I hate when they say that because inside I feel so full, and about to explode. Hoping my appointment will help me calm down about things. Wishing you all the best, and will be looking forward to hearing updates on how you're doing.

. It's not in your head. I've had constant bloating, pressure & pain along w/ the bleeding. Bending down, sitting up/sitting down & too much activity all cause pain in stomach & lower back. Even eating a normal meal can create a feeling of fullness. I too am small & haven't gone up a clothing size & my weight has only increased by a few lbs. over the past few years so some people don't understand the bloat feel for me either. It feels like there's a lead ball in your stomach. At my pre-op, they took blood to check my hematocrit, answered more questions, explained details of surgery more, have general recovery guidelines & paperwork. Best luck to you. I'd like to hear updates as well.

Hi ...Pretty New Here also! We have the same surgery date 1/21 and quite frankly I have had days of freaking out and then their are the days that I am so happy that I don't have to worry anymore about the cramps and pain I endure each month. This last month when I had my last period I bought the "Cadillac" of tampons. Super glide super pink super soft etc. LOL Hope all goes well for us on the 21st! Hang in there, We are not alone.

Re: Just got surgery date Jan 21 not I really feel sick :(

Hi majaca to HysterSisters -

All of your emotions, fears, and nerves are very normal. Having this surgery is very tough decision. Discuss with your doctor the pros and cons of this surgery, given your condition, and the long term health consequences. You can also get other opinions - there may be other options.

I also see from your survey, that you have endo/andeno, fibroids, and cysts. From this site, I have understand that a hysterectomy will not cure endo. You need to have an endo specialist remove the disease. Here is an article: Endometriosis | Hysterectomy the Answer?.

You may also want to look at our pre-op page. It has information and a list of questions to ask your doctor.

Know that you are not alone - we are here to help and support you.
You need to make the decision that is right for you.

Re: Just got surgery date Jan 21 not I really feel sick :(

So glad you found us! Making the decision to have a hysterectomy and waiting for surgery is very difficult. We have all been there, and understand how it feels. It is good that your husband is supporting your decision to have surgery. Unfortunately, no one can tell you if you should have a hysterectomy or not. It is such a personal decision and has to come from you. You may wish to check out the Alternatives section in the blue bar near the top of the page. Make a list of questions to take to your pre-op appointment and stay until they are all answered. Feel free to ask whatever you like of us here on HysterSisters. We are here for you.
