8 days out and counting!

Hi to all you sisters and AmyS, GHendrix and Painnogain who responded to my post of the 20th. Thanks for all your support, it's always heartwarming to know there's a great support network out there for our former and soon to be former misery.

I got through the surgery without too many bumps. It helps when the operating room staff is so nice and there are some of those male nurses that are a real treat! The surgery took a tad longer than we anticipated (1 3/4 hours as opposed to 1 hour) but the Dr reported to my family (Mom and SO) that I sailed through. The next few hours were tolerable with the shots they gave me to keep me quiet. I did have the pump for meds they usually hook you up to, but Morphine is not my drug of choice and I do well to stay away from it (it dries me out for some reason) and I found I didnt' really need it for pain. Now if they'd pumped some gas relief into the IV, I would have really appreciated it.

I'm more fortunate than most and I must tell you having your own private nurse is the ticket, but when that nurse is your mother..... She was wonderful. The bed was changed, new gown and a bath, oooh, just like the resort! She had me up and around the next morning(Thursday) before the nurses could blink twice.

I was out by 4PM the next day (Thursday) and on my way to Mom's for the next week to recover under her watchful eye.

She filled me full of the proper things (good food, juice, lots of water, fresh grapefruit from the tree out back and the proper timing for meds), enforced bed rest and she got me up and around on Saturday morning for a short juant to an estate sale, but then back to bed for a nice long nap.

Now I'm home and it feels good. I'm getting better by the day. I'll post on the post hyst site with all the gorry details.

To all you ladies still in waiting, it'll soon be over and you'll feel wonderful, too! It makes one wonder why we waited so long !?!

Sounds like you were very lucky to have "mom" around. I will also have my mom here to take care of me. She is not a nurse, but know that she will not let me do anything when I come home, and living in Fl. also, I can count on great fruit from the back yard!

Glad all went so well.
