Ruuuuude strangers!

I managed to walk to the store and back today; 6 blocks round trip. It was slow going and I took my cane, but I was happy to get some exercise, such as it was. While I was there, some lady said, "Oh, you don't need that cane! You're just walking like that 'cause you think it's cute!" I said, "Actually, I had a bunch of organs removed on Monday, so I'm just glad to be walking around at all!" She seemed chastened and said, "I guess that's pretty good."

But hey, thanks for telling me all about me, stranger!

I know I'm young, but not having a cast or amputation doesn't mean I don't need help walking now and then. I got the same kind of comments before I had my knee surgery, from people who couldn't see that I was walking around on a shredded meniscus with a ruptured meniscal cyst. If I was sitting on the bus, once in a while someone would actually ask to see my surgery scars to "prove" that I needed a seat, which was ridiculous because I only ever needed to sit *before* I had the surgery!

Next time someone says something rude to me like that, I'll tell them they'd be walking funny too if they had stitches in their hoo-ha.

Re: Ruuuuude strangers!

People can be rude. I can't believe they asked to see your surgery scars! Then, I pictured you saying you have stitches in your hooha...I wondered if they need to see those too! Made me laugh first time today.
