Having trouble still post hysterectomy when I have a bm..

I am having so much trouble having bm's since my hysterectomy. I have tried miralax and taking it everyday but it is so painful it is pure torture when I go. It's been 11 days now since surgery, and does anyone else have this problem or could they have messed up something during surgery and maybe should talk to the doctor about it ?

Re: Having trouble still when I have a bm..

Big hugs! It can takes few weeks for the BMs to become regular and less painful. But I think this much pain at 11 days (especially when taking Miralax everyday) is definitely worth discussing with the doctor. In the meantime drink lots of water, eat your fibre (peas and pears are very high in fibre), and take frequent walks as you feel able. It can help putting your feet on a stool while sitting on the toilet, and push or bear down only very gently.

I had a rough time of it with BMs post op too. I had my first small BM at 6 days post and each one was still a painful battle after that. Miralax finally worked for me. So maybe try a different stool softener like Senokot. Your body may respond better to a different medicine.

Prune juice, peppermint tea, milk of magnesia, gas-x and stool softener did the trick for me. Also black liquorice seemed to help too . Mix the prune juice with another juice and warm up . It will taste better that way.

Having trouble still post hysterectomy when I have a bm..

I was the same it took me 5 days post op to have my first small bm, and it was very hard on me. I do make myself drink a lot of water, and I walk a lot also. I had a good recovery team for the first week, and as soon as I showed signs of feeling better it's like they all faded out, and now I am kinda on my own. Sometimes I feel like right now not even being 2 weeks out on post op that I am doing to much because I am having such a hard time walking for to long it hurts so bad in the left side of my incision.
Thank you both so much for the reply. I am going to try the alternate stool softeners and talk it over with my doctor when he is back in town.

Re: Having trouble still when I have a bm..

I'm nearly 5 weeks post op and still having constipation and discomfort when I have go. Not as bad as the first week or so, but uncomfortable. I think my lower bowel might have gotten bruised or something during the procedure and is finally healing.

That could possibly be my problem. Did you ever discuss it with your doctor or just take it day by day to see if it worked itself out? I mean I had a really good doctor he is fixing to retire. He told me the surgery was without complications whatever that means. I just worry I guess having so many changes going on right now. Thank you for your input it is all appreciated(:

Re: Having trouble still when I have a bm..

Are you still taking narcotics ? They can slow things alot. One trick I used; DH brought me a glass of juice before I even got out of bed. Might also watch the starches and substitute extra veggies.

Yes. I talked to him about both the bladder and bowel issues. Up until a few days ago I had pain when my bladder was full and when the stream of urine was ending. He said that there's the possibility that the organs were bruised due to being repositioned in order to get to the uterus, ovaries, etc. He said it would resolve itself. It has gotten much better the last few days.
