Surgery date set....scary!!

Hello everyone,

My surgery date is 4-17. I don't know all the abbreviations, suffice it to say that everything will be taken, and probably will need some additional surgery at the same time to the colon, bowel, bladder.... they aren't really sure until they can get in there to see.

I posted on the cancer concerns boards a few weeks ago and told my whole story up to that point. I won't go through it all again, but the hysteroscopy and tissue samples do not show cancer, so I should be posting here instead!

The things that scare me at this point are many... but let me pick out the highlights. I've been disable with SLE (Lupus) for almost 10 years. I'm very worried about how my body will deal with surgery.

I'm basically a baby regardless, the though of surgery (especially the INCISION YUCK) makes me all barfy. He had a special name for the incision, I don't remember it, but he said its the long one from hip bone to hip bone, rather than the smaller one regularly used. He said it was this or the only other option would be the vertical one.

I have to do an extensive bowel prep the day before. That's not going to be pleasant but I'm specificly worried about the heavy anitbiotic regiment on top of the Fleet Phopho Soda and only clear liquids. I understand, and I agree that we have to do the Phospho Soda part. I'm VERY medication senstive with Lupus and things just tend to knock me for a loop. I have to take 500 mgs of Neomycin at 4 pm, 6pm and 10 pm, and Clindamycin at Noon, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 10pm. I have a feeling that I'm going to be vomiting to the extreme from about 6:30 on. I always have had to take antibiotics that I can take with food so that I can keep them down. If I was throwing up all night is it possible that I wouldn't end up getting the surgery and that we might have to reschedule? I think I will call my regular Dr about this to see if there is any other way. I know that there is going to be a specialist standing by during my surgery in case the bowel gets nicked, and I know that the antibiotics are in case this happens... but as much as I'm terrified of surgery, I also cannot put it off any longer and am afraid this regime might do just that. Add to that my surgeon's wife is due to have her baby May 1, and when she does he takes 3 weeks off.... so this would be put off for some time.

Okay.. I'm scared about many things but I think this should suffice to start SAYING all those fears 'out loud' so to speak.

I would definitely talk to your doctor about your concerns and ask if they can give you something for nausea the night before. I would suggest suppositories in the event you can't keep a pill down.

Good luck and God bless!!!!
