18 months post hysterectomy: I kept my ovaries, but could they not be working? too young for menopause?

I'm 28 years old. isnt that too young to go through menopause? I kept my ovaries. I copied this list of menopause symptoms and I'm going to list all that's going on with me, ill delete what doesn't apply.

Menopause Symptoms
•Hot flashes, flushes, night sweats, and/or cold flashes and/or clammy feeling
•Irritability
•Mood swings
•Loss of libido
•Dry vagina
•Crashing fatigue
•Feelings of dread, apprehension, doom
•Difficulty concentrating, disorientation, mental confusion
•Disturbing memory lapses
•Gastrointestinal distress, indigestion, flatulence, gas pain, nausea
•Sudden bouts of bloating
•Depression
•Increase in allergies
•Weight gain
•Tinnitus: ringing in ears, bells, 'whooshing,' buzzing, etc

I have no sex drive at all, that's my #1 concern. Also I just start sweating for no reason in public places, and of course at night. I'm so moody my husband can't deal with me. I feel so depressed. I've gained weight and can not lose it with diet or exercise which makes me even more depressed feeling. My dr won't do any testing, I've mentioned my concerns to him last year and he just says the sex drive and moods are just stress, life in general bc I work full time with 3 kids. I guess since I kept my ovaries he see's nothing wrong. I stay constipated and bloated. Constipation started after my surgery.

Honestly, find a new dr! Ovaries can quit working after a hysterectomy. It happens! It's not normal to be 28 and have no sex drive. I'm 29, was 28 at the time if my total hysterectomy and ovary removal. There is no reason to feel the way you do. A simple blood test can tell so much as far as estrogen and testosterone levels.

Can a family dr check those levels? or do I HAVE to go see my OBGYN

I experienced the same symptoms about 18 mo ago. I begged my GP to test my hormone levels. He did but said there was nothing wrong with me. I finally started seeing a nurse practitioner who specializes in hormone disorders/menopause. She told me I'm peri-menopausal and my ovaries have nearly stopped working.
It was very frustrating not to be taken seriously just because I was in my 30s.
Good luck to you!

Hello, I'm 40, kept ovaries and am now menopausal.
Yes, it does happen.

1 year post hysterectomy I had the symptoms but the levels had not yet dipped.
Now, 2 years post, the hormones have dropped- dramatically.

Any doc can order blood work to test ESTRADIOL, TESTOSTERONE and FSH.
This year they may be in normal range.

Check again next year, and they may not.

I had depression and extreme panic attacks since last November. Those were the symptoms of the fluctuating hormones. I have a psychiatrist who has helped me manage the debilitating mood problems with stabilizers. So, for now- treat your symptoms and get your hormones checked this year and next.

Trust your instincts!
