Did they take or leave the ovaries? Have they ruled out all heart/neurological problems? Did they jsut give you atenalol or another beta blocker- like drug that will slow it down?
These are questions that I need to know. You see, I had them too! It was not the morphine, nor any heart problem, nor any neurological problem. The meds made me tired and ill because I didn't need them. They were treating a symptom, not the cause!
It was perimenopause for me!
I found through Dr. Christian Northrup, the Mayo Clinic Site, powersurge site for menopausal women, and the Oprah show, that heart palpitations are extrememly common during perimeno!
Even Oprah thought she was having a heart attack{So did I! Lightheaded, weak, shakey scared the be-geesus out of me!}! It is caused by the Leutinizing hormones rising as the estrogen drops. Your body will become adjusted to the hormonal changes in time and they will cease. But if you need relief, ask your dr for estrogen supplements...or HRT if you aren't on it. If you are, it very well could be the wrong one if your symptoms are continuing.
You may also go to obgyn.net and ask the drs there on the women's forum what to do because everything else has been ruled out. They were very good with me. Actually estrogen helped immensly! I just haven't gone and gotten my second check up to get it again!
It took a dr testing every two weeks the blood levels to finally see the fluctuations in my hormones. It happens for me around ovualation, and right before my period would be due should I still have my uterus.
For your information here is a list from an early menopause site explaining all symptoms possible. As soon as the link thingy works, I will post it for you!
But here is the list [also available at the mayo clinic site]:

So make sure to rule out the dangerous stuff, and breathe deeply and slowly through it,. that seems to help. It can be very scary and awful to go through. I hope this has helped in some small way!
Lots of hugs and Love! I know how it feels! Delt with it for three yrs before drs found the cause!
Hang in there...it does get better.
