Myxoid Leiomyosarcoma

I'm new here and not real computer savy.
I wanted to know if anyone on the board has had uterine Leiomyosarcoma?
I had surgery last Nov. for uterine fibroids. The doctor who did the surgery was so sure that they were only fibroids that he just removed them and took no other precautions. He left my cervix to which the cancerous fibroid was attached because thinking it was only a fibroid, he didn't see any reason to take it out. He removed my uterus and ovaries. About 3 wks. later he told me one fibroid was a very rare cancer (myxoid leiomyosaroma). This was just a gyn surgeon. He sent me to a cancer gyn surgeon. I have had 33 radiation treatments and will go every 3 mos. for awhile to have a CT Scan and once a year for a chest x-ray. He said this type of cancer is really hard to cure and can show up in my lungs or liver later.
Does any of you know of anyone else and what was their outcome?

Myxoid Leiomyosarcoma

Hi, jmadr!
I was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma after my hyst last May of 2001. I am not familiar with "myxoid". Prior to the surgery it looked like I had a pedunculated fibroid (one that grows outside and attached to the uterus). But when they went in to remove the fibroid, uterus and cervix, they found that the tumor on the outside was not attached to the uterus but was in the lining of the small intestine ( and I had a CT scan and ultrasound as a diagnostic). The tumor was well localized and they removed it all as well as uterus, cervix and ovaries. After consulting with 2 different cancer centers, both agreed that was the treatment needed....surgery. Then labs came back that the tumor was receptive for progesterone. I am taking Megace (Megestrol) as a tumor inhibitor. No estrogen except for Vagifem for vaginal atrophy and dryness. I see the oncologist/gyn every 3 months and had a PET scan done in October with a chest x-ray. I will probably have another in May prior to my doctor's check up. Yes, this is a rare cancer!!! How are you feeling??????

{{{jmadr}}} and {{{Margie}}}

I found 2 articles on this, but not very much 'real' information, but I will post them here for you just in case there is something that helps you.

I will keep surfing around the net to see if I can stumble on anything helpful to you.

Meanwhile, I am saying prayers for both of you wonderful ladies.
