Lupron and Endo

Hi. New here. I'm 25 years old, had a lap in February because of lower right pelvic pain. Gyn found adhesions and endo. After surgery, he suggested Lupron. My second shot was 3/28. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced side effects from this? If so, what? What did you do about it?
I'm experiencing insomina (they gave me 6 sleeping pills to help - that's it!), pelvic pain, mood swings, rash, chest pain, and I'm exhausted all the time. I complain to my doctor, tell him what I read on the internet, and he tells me no, it's not the Lupron. What do I do? I want to have children after this is over, but I wonder if I'll get that far? I'm also on addback pills which have helped with the night sweats and hot flashes.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much!!!

Hi there

I'm not sure why your doc would say it isn't Lupron. I had 4 Lupron injections a year ago. The doc thought it might be endo, but as of my 3/20 hyster, no endo.

I had night sweats and hot flashes, which helped with estrogen add back therapy. I also had memory loss. I am one of these people who can remember just about everything - my poor husband (LOL), so when I started having all that, he had to give me the add back.

I had the opposite as you - my pelvic pain prior to lupron was about a 6 or 7 on a scale of 10. During my shots, the pain went down to about a 2 or 3. Each person experiences a different set of side effects or varying degrees of the same side effect.

I have heard many many women have side effects from this drug, BUT, most the time it does work in "shrinking" the endo. Try to stay with it. Keep talking with your doc and discuss other options while you are on the shots. I hope it works for you and you can have children. Best wishes!

I had the lap because of pelvic pain. They did CT scans and ultrasounds but couldn't find anything so they suggested the lap. While doing the lap they also took the appendix. I suppose the pain has diminished, but it's still there, still enough for pain meds (they have me on vicadin).
Does anyone know how soon I can try to get pregnant after the Lupron shots?

Thanks for your reply.

Lupron and Endo

I am not sure about the pregnancy thing, but I had a lap last June that suggested adeno and doc suggested lupron. I did it for 6 months despite the horible side effects I had: night sweats, insomnia, fatigue (I am sure from the insomnia), mood swings, and hot never said anything about giving something to take away these side effects, although didnt complain too much about them (to him), they did give me trazedone to help with irritibility and ansomnia, helped a little. How long did they say you would have the shots? I may be wrong, but think I read somewhere that after 6 months of lupron there is a chance of not becoming pregnant, you should talk to your doc on this. The lupron actually helped me as far as the pelvic pain, bleeding, and painful intercourse! But 2 months after my last shot...the symptoms all came back...but that is why my doc is almost possitive that a LAVH/BSO will be my cure! Keep reading up on lupron and talk to your is not for everyone!

I was on Lupron over 10 years ago when it was first approved. Ever since I have been searching for something new but it seems to be the drug of choice for the average dr. who looks up a disease and prescribes the drug in the book. Six years later a new dr. advised me to take it again and I told him to forget it and sought out an endo specialist.

Lupron put me in a chemical menopause; It bothered the people around me more than it did myself. The only saving grace was I promised everyone it would be over soon.

Anyway, in my opinion and others it just masks the symptoms of endo. for awhile.

Sounds like your dr. is denying the symptoms,, it's not you its the drug. You may want to seek out another dr. who specializes in fertility. Sometimes they can laser the endo and get you baby ready.

In my non medical opinion, I think it's the drug from hell and would not recommend it’s use.

Good luck and God Bless,

Hi, I am 24 years old and I can relate to your syptoms. This is my second round with lupron within two years and I have awful side effects from the injections. The last time I was on the lupron it made me have awful heart palpations. Plus hot flashes, mood swings, sickness, and sore muscles. The lupron has hurt my muscle strength. My doctor told me that all of these side effects are from the lupron. I don't understand why your doctor would tell you this information. Both my Gyn and my heart doctor told me that lupron can have severe side effects.
My doctor also told me that the best time to get pregnant is as soon as you come off the lupron injections. He says that this is your greatest chance of getting pregnant, ecspecially if you have problems with your female organs.

Lupron side effects

My side effects from Lupron were awful!!!! That's an understatement

Here's my list.......

Hot flashes(pretty bad, but bearable)

Severe dizziness(I would literally lose my balance and it affected my driving)

Heart palpitations

Tachycardia(my heart would race all the time and one time it put me in the ER)

Short term memory loss

Hair loss

Facial hair growth

I think that's it. It did make my pain go away for about a month, but as soon as I went on add-back therapy, my pain came back, just not as severe and I still had some side effects. So in the end, I had less severe side effects and less severe pain. I never felt good on Lupron. It was pretty horrible for me. I only lasted 4 months instead of 6. I do know alot of women have great results with lupron. Not me

Lupron and Endo

Oh the memory loss on Lupron is unbearable-I thought I was developing Alzheimer's. The hot flashes were awful, I gained 12 pounds in a month. I was a nervous irritable mess and it did NOT help relieve the pain or my Endo. I was on it for 3 injections (3 months) and my last shot was February 18 and I am still recovering from them.

Best of luck to you. I hope you can find something else if this doesn't work for you.

Lupron and Endo

I would like to add to my list of side effects above........

I know alot of women gain weight while on lupron. I lost 20 pounds in the first month. Yes, I was trying. But I had been trying for 1 1/2 years before that with no luck. I maintained the 20 pound loss while on Lupron and as soon as I went off it and back onto BCP's, the weight came right back on. So there's one positive thing about Lupron

Lupron and Endo

Im 28 and on Lupron. I started on it 15 February and got my last shot 15 March. Doc only wanted me to do 2 cycles of it. TVh on 23 April. Anyhow, here's my list of side effects:

Hot Flashes (sometimes pretty bad ones)
Night Sweats
Cold Chills
Increased Facial Hair (hubby thought I was working on a goatie)
Hair On Legs and Underarms Grows So Much Faster Now
Weight Gain (I have gained 10 lbs since starting Lupron)
Joint Aches & Pain

The GREAT thing about Lupron: NO PERIODS!

As far as your doctor is concerned, get another opinion! He sounds good, but doesn't wanna face up to the fact that Lupron is terrible (In My Opinion).

Best Wishes & God Bless †
