Very anxious - 6 weeks until hysterectomy (10/15) for uterine prolapse and bladder prolapse - need encouragement!

Have uterine prolapse and bladder prolapse. Pain from prolapse has me pretty much in bed or seated now.

I have difficulty taking medication ( very sensitive stomach and chronic dizziness issues). I little pain tolerance. Freaking out about anesthesia.

Guess I am most concerned about bladder issues and complications. Dr. says my uterus is very healthy--it's just sliding out the door (literally) and taking everything else with it. Think I may be getting rectocele now as it's getting tough the go bm. Trying to eat high fiber and keep it soft now. TMI.

Have 6 weeks to wait. Very anxious and trying not to be obsessive but I've never been thru surgery ( except c-section ). I was a lot younger and braver then.
Desparate for encouragement!
Having total vaginal hysterectomy, could be lap assisted.

Re: Very anxious - 6 weeks until hysterectomy (10/15) - desperate for encouragement!

Hi Sparrow, I too was super stressed, I had never been in the hospital for anything and was scared to death. Be sure your dr and the anesthesiologist know about your reaction to pain meds. They can give you something to help your stomach. For me, I had only Tylenol and toradol in my iv, no narcotics, and they worked really well for me, I had no pain to speak of, only when I coughed, everyone was so patient and kind to me in the hospital, they will take good care of you and make sure that you feel as good as possible. Hang in there and try to focus on how great you will feel afterwards! Truly when I woke up, I wondered how it was possible to feel as good as I felt.

Re: Very anxious - 6 weeks until hysterectomy (10/15) - desperate for encouragement!

I just had mine yesterday and all went well and I'm home. I got a patch for anti nausea because I had nausea with a previous surgery. I didn't have any nausea yesterday. You will have a whole team taking care of you. I was terrified but it all goes very quickly once you get there. Tell them all your concerns and sensitivity to meds and they will take care of you. You can totally do this. There's lots of support on this site. Many many women have this procedure and many of us were super anxious beforehand. You are not alone!

Hi SparrowSparrow625 -

All of your fears, nerves, emotions and freakouts are very normal. This is one tough surgery to face.

Anesthesia has come a long way, even in the last 10 years. The doctors and nurses will take very good care of you and watch over you during your surgery. They have many, many surgeries and are very well trained and experienced.

Talk to your doctor about your sensitivity to meds, and your chronic dizziness. They can probably give you something for that.

It is not your first surgery, but this article may help anyway:

Re: Very anxious - 6 weeks until hysterectomy (10/15) for uterine prolapse and bladder prolapse - need encouragement!

I had a stage 3 uterine and bladder prolapse. I am 6 weeks post op. I am doing great.
You will be fine. Follow the dr orders to the tea. Do not rush your recovery because you will have a lot of internal stitches. I was up and walking the next day. It will be slow but that is ok.
I am so glad to have it over, nothing is falling out if you know what I mean.
It is better after surgery, trust me.

Thanks. I am already planning and preparing DH for at least 12 weeks of recovery. I hear it's vital to watch that weight restriction so insides heal especially since I hope to be using my own tissues. Glad you are feeling like the "insides" are now feeling better. Keep posting your recovery as I will follow your progress.

Meanwhile, 6 weeks from today is the big day .......

Re: Very anxious - 6 weeks until hysterectomy (10/15) for uterine prolapse and bladder prolapse - need encouragement!

Sparrow you can do this and you will be ok. I had tvh just over six weeks ago. I had a2nd degree cystocele a first degree rectocele and some prolapse going on. Plus a cystic ovary. It got to the point that I had maybe 2_3 days a month I wasn't in pain. So happy my surgery is done. Dr did repairs using my own tissue also. Recovery wasn't bad, pain wise was mostly less then what I felt before and no one offered narcotics to get through that. Lol so happy to move on with my life without the awful periods that would basically make me home bound 3_4 days a month. Best of luck to you.

I want you to remember something, after the surgery there will be swelling inside and in your vagina. They added abdominal mesh to my pelvic floor and pulled my uterus out of a small horizontal bikini cut. Nothing was done or came out vaginally. They left my cervix so there was more to attach the mesh to and it helps to prevent the vaginal vault from prolapse.
You will feel like you still have a prolapse after surgery, you do not. It will be swlling. It will take some time but this is important to remember for prolapse repair surgery.
Take the full 12 weeks for recovery. Prolapse means you didn't just have your uterus taken out but a big pull-up and tuck of the pelvic floor.
You will do great, just go slow and steady and that is what wins the prize.
