3 weeks post hysterectomy, sharp left side pain

Hello!
I am 3+ weeks post-op from my TAH. It was a way more extensive surgery than anyone was expecting due to crazy scar tissue and adhesions from my endo, a swell as a very large uterus full of fibroids.
He was able to save my ovaries, thank God. He thinks that he will likely be taking them one day, but the longer I keep them, the better.
Anyway, it hadn't been an easy recovery, it started 12 days post-op with a vaginal cuff infection. I was put on antibiotics and I believe that is fully resolved.
As I was on the antibiotics (still am) I got an infection along my incision. Now it looks like that has healed a fair bit, I still have a hole with a bit of drainage and it smells still.
The past few days my tummy (right by the infected part of my incision) has been hurting. Today it started to hurt so bad that I can hardly move. That take your breath away kinda pain. I do have an appt tomorrow with him. But honestly, it is so bad that I may have to go to the ER (not trying to brag or anything, but I have a fairly high pain tolerance, so this is BAD). I also had a big sneeze today and kinda hurt my tummy and had to lift my 1 1/2 year old out of his crib once (had no choice and it didn't hurt doing it)
Anyone else experience this? Thoughts? Any insight? I'm worried what will happen tomorrow. Anyone know what I should expect? Thanks ladies <3

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, sharp left side pain

Went to Dr today and he wonders if I over did it and gave me stronger pain meds. And he put a very large needle in my belly several times to numb it. He wanted to see if it was associated with the internal stitches. Numbing didn't work so he suspects that it is my ovary. The pain meds do take a bit of the edge off, but it is brutal pain. It feels like someone is dissecting me. I can hardly move. He is booking an ultrasound, but it could take a while to get in. Anyone experience this? I'm in P-A-I-N :'(

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, sharp left side pain

Oh girl, so sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I just saw this post and am glad you were at your doctor's office today. I had a Di Vinci procedure so didn't have the incision, but about 6 weeks in got a vaginal cuff incfection and likely a UTI to go with it. I thought my pain tolerance was high, but that sure got me. I don't know how long it had been going on, but I know what you mean about considering the ER! Yikes, that's pain! I was also nauseated and spotting red blood.

My doctor put me on Levaquin for 7 days. I went back a week later and she did ultrasound in the office and put me on an additional 5 days. Next appt in 2 weeks.

At least I can say I can finally cough and sneeze without pain but the spotting continues - it's not bad at all just kind of worries me. And I do notice I get sore (not painful just sore/crampy) on the left side when I do a lot of walking. I used ibprofen when the pain was really bad (800mg but I was desparate) and the rx pain meds make me nauseous which I didn't need more of!

I really don't understand all this, but I'm told it's just a bacterial thing that happens in some people after abdominal surgeries. But like you, I'm wondering if it was that dang grocery cart that was stuck and without thinking I jerked it to loosen it!

I hope you feel better soon. I'll try to remember to check this thread to find out how you are doing! Hang in there!

Thank you so much! I hope that you are feeling better. The vaginal cuff infection that I had is gone and the dr said that the infection along the incision is gone too. Now he just isn't sure what is going on.
Today is also my first time with no help and a 26 lb baby in a crib 😱

Wow sister, just saw this post for the first time...hang in there!! I thought my recovery had been tough...I am so sorry, but really glad that your infections have cleared up.
I have days where I feel pretty good, then just last night and this morning not so great. I have a what I guess is nerve pain down my lower left pelvic area into the very top of my leg that gives me problems all the time, my mid right side hurts off and on quite a bit, too. My biggest issue is my digestive system. Even though I have BM'S everday, sometimes it is not enough, I get more backed up then I realize, and my entire tummy will hurt real bad. I had to use some milk of magnesia this morning for that. Now doing better! I still get extremely tired, luckily I have an 11 year old. I can't even imagine having to care for an infant right now. You are one tough lady!!!
Hopefully you and baby are doing lots of napping together!!
I hope they can figure out what is happening and you can feel better soon!!
Hugs my dear!!

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, sharp left side pain

Im glad i saw this thread. You arent alone. Im 16 says post op and have a bacterial infection too. Using metrogel for that. But i keep having aching (bad) pains above my pubic bone and pelvic area that has worsened in last three days. Urine was fine but dr is putting me on Cipro in case there is another infection. Feeling pretty miserable. Hope you feel better.

Sounds like you have a bladder infection even though it was clear, hey? Hope that it all clears quickly.

Re: 3 weeks post hysterectomy, sharp left side pain

Thanks everyone!
Hope that we are all healed quickly. Even with all of this trouble that I have going on, I still don't regret having a hysterectomy. I still think that it is one of the best decisions that I ever made. Oh and I haven't had any bleeding in like 10+ days, I can't remember the last time that has happen
