5+ weeks post hysterectomy: not one of my better nights. Pain, pressure and bladder concerns.

I am so glad I found this site only wish I would have found it sooner. I am not sure what all of the abbreviations are but I had a hysterectomy with just the removal of my uterus and also a bladder sling. I am almost 6 weeks into my recovery and am having some rough days. I thought i was just being a cry baby until I read other posts. Tonight has been one of my rougher nights. I am having a lot of back pain and a stabbing pain with a lot of pressure in my belly. I have been having a hard time emptying my bladder I think. I feel like I have to go to the bathroom all of the time and sometimes I go a lot and other times I go just a tiny bit and an running back a few minutes later. It seems to be worse at night after I lay down. So i am up and down all night and am not getting any sleep which is leaving me exhausted. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: not one of my better nights.

Sleep seems to be a huge problem fir a lot of people. Is it possible you have a urine infection?? Swelling and such can put pressure on the bladder giving you a constant urge to gi and then just a little at a time. Cant say anything i did made it much better except time. Heating pad might relax the area and help the bladder empty, seems to help my back a lot too!! I had complications and repeat surgery just a few weeks ago, so dealing with it all over. Another thing to remember, sugar and caffeine are both stimulants and will stimulate your bladder for just a little out. Avoid those as much as you can, but if it persists i would still ask dr to check for uti, just in case. Hope you get some sleep.

Re: not one of my better nights.

I agree with lovelifenow, it almost sounds like you could have a urinary tract infection. See if things settle and if not, it is probably best to get it checked out. When you say that you have back pain, is it your upper or lower back or in the area of your kidneys??
Keep us posted and I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thank you for the replies. The back pain is in my lower back. It is just a real uncomfortable ache feeling. I do have an appointment on Monday so hopefully I can get some answers then.
