CT scan

The prep kit is one of two things (or both). It may be a bowel prep to make sure they get a good view (you can look on the pre-op boards for info on that - not all women get them for a hyst, but gyn-oncs are somewhat more likely to give a bowel prep) or it may be a liquid you drink for what is called "contrast".

The CT scan just gives your doctor a good picture of what he can expect. With cancer -- even very early stage -- they want to make sure there is nothing else abnormal going on. They use the CT to guide the surgery, and also for comparisons while you are being watched the first few years after your surgery.

I had a hyst for a very small ovca in Janaury and I get CTs every 3 months, and will for 2 years. In the scheme of things, it is not a bad test.

It is wonderful your regular gyn is going to provide emotional support and concurrent follow-up. Sounds like you have a good medical team assembled.
