? on cancer of the cervix

I had a hysterectomy in Janurary, but I have a friend that went to my gyn today and had some kind of procedure done and he told her that she might have cancer of the cervix, but would have to wait to get the results from the lab to know for sure. I am wanting to know if she does have cancer, what is the next step?
She was to upset to ask. I was wondering when you have a hysterectomy can they take your cervix too?
Thanks for any information,

? on cancer of the cervix

If your friend does have cervical cancer then they would perform a hysterectomy which would remove the cervix. In early stages cervical cancer is almost 100% curable.

Hi Stacy usually when you go to a gyn. they do certain tests to see what abnormalities there are on the cervix. A colposcopy is done with a colposcope which is like a pair or binoculars on a stand. This allows the Dr to have a magnified view of the cervix.
A solution is painted onto the cervix to highlight abnormal areas and the Dr can see the location and pattern of any abnormal areas. During the examination a biopsy may be taken of any abnormal areas and will be sent to a pathologist for testing.

If she has cancer the next step would probably be a gynaecological oncologist ~ a Dr who specializes in GYN. cancers. But it could be pre- cancer and there are other options besides a hysterectomy. And if it is cancer , then remember that a hysterectomy is usually all that is needed to remove abnormal cells.

Please tell your friend to register with Hystersisters. She will receive so much support here. Take care xx
