Upcoming Robotic hysterectomy..

My name is Jaime, I'm having the robotic hysterectomy in February. My obgyn says this is the only way she performs them, she's taking everything but my ovaries. I'm a little nervous, anyone know how long there surgery lasted? thoughts, recommendations, comments ?

Re: Upcoming Robotic surgery..

Surgery is around 2 hrs.you must be very careful after regarding the no lifting instructions.small pillow held to stomach first few days helps and it helps when you are going to bed.Do not push yourself. You will be tired..make sure you rest as much as possible. It is painful but not excruciating.Good luck...it will all be fine

Re: Upcoming Robotic hysterectomy..

My surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours, but that included taking a bunch of lymph nodes. One night in the hospital, was up walking and eating the same day. I had no acute pain afterwards but had sore torso/abdominal muscles. I had a relatively easy recovery but was surprised at how exhausted I was. I healed quickly but really had "the slows" for about 3 months. Don't under-estimate the impact of the surgery just because it's laproscopic, it's still major surgery and a big shock to your system. Good luck!

Re: Upcoming Robotic hysterectomy..

Start your pre-op colon cleanse early the day before - if you work, I'd plan on taking the day off. Just my experience. My surgery lasted a couple hours, woke up with a catheter, which they removed about an hour after I got to my room. I went home same day - did what doctors and nurses told me to do so I wouldn't have to spend the night at hospital. Although on Percocet and Fentanyl at the time - worked from my hospital room via phone. I had to go off the Vicodin they sent me home with after 2 days because I had "jelly brain". Not all people are affected the same. My best advice is to follow doctors orders when you go home! Also take care of yourself and give it time. You might have twinges from time to time for several months. If you're worried, call the doctor.

Re: Upcoming Robotic hysterectomy..

Mine is scheduled January 7 for 5 hours. Michelle Nirton Copelin said hers only took 40 minutes. I think it all depends on how much you are having done, if morcellator is used, what they find inside, and if there are any complications. I'm having a lot done and expecting significant Endo/adhesions to deal with. It will take as long as necessary to do it right and get you as healthy as possible. Good luck to us all.

Re: Upcoming Robotic hysterectomy..

My robotic hysterectomy was a year ago this month. My surgery was 2 1/2 hours, but I had a cancer diagnosis so they removed everything, including lymph nodes. I had 5 small incisions, minimal pain, and a pretty quick recovery, although it seemed like I was tired for months afterward. Hope your experience is just as good as mine was!
