Ovarian Cysts, Anyone?

Hi, Bonnie -

I had a mass on my left ovary they said didn't look like a normal cyst. It was followed in ultrasounds for a year, and got a tiny bit bigger every time. Normal CA125s (which are really just used as a marker - there are many things that can cause elevated CA125 levels, like fibroids), no CT Scan. With a family history of ovarian cancer, I was very scared. I also found out less than 4 days before my hyst that I probably had thyroid cancer (that turned out to be the case). My doc, like yours, told me he thought the ovarian mass would be benign, but planned to have a gynecological oncologist assist just in case (turned out he was called away at the last minute) Like you, I was still scared, and I can sure understand your fears.

My ovarian tumor turned out to be benign, and there was a HUGE sigh of relief when my husband told me that after surgery. Sounds like chances are, yours will be benign, too. My thoughts were: be as prepared as possible for the worst, and hope for the best.

Hang in there - and we'll be hoping to hear good news!!!

Cheers,

Ovarian Cysts, Anyone?

I can relate to the pain of ovarian cysts. I suffered for years with them and the last one wasn't really big but hurt so bad I was in bed for days.

I am so glad I will never have another ovarian cyst!!

Ovarian Cysts, Anyone?

Dear Alisa and Sparkler:

Thanks to you both Although my last weekend before surgery was full of pain, and I'm scared to pieces about Wednesday, I keep telling myself this was the last bout of pain I'll have to deal with. Hopefully when the surgery is over, it will get better day by day.

Thanks again.

Hi

Hi donduck...Just keep thinking those thoughts of 'No Pain" from this anymore. Your goal now is to get this behind you. I'll tell you a secret..When I had myTAH I cried like a baby before the nurse gave me some "Joy Juice" and was rolled into the OR. I thought I had this scared thing under control and was determined not to embarrass myself infront of everyone. I was actually looking forward to the surgery and getting rid of YEARS of horrible pain. But I still sorta fell apart. My dear, you are so normal . God gives us these feelings for a reason and when I have my surgery in May , I 'm going to cry if I want too cause I will be scared once again. Sometimes I think when we are scared , we are being our strongest. Lots of s to you.

Ovarian Cysts, Anyone?

Thank you for sharing.

I'm kinda falling apart. Was doing pretty good, but now having trouble sleeping, concentrating on anything, and all of this is making me feel pretty crummy. Just told my boss I would be taking tomorrow off before Wednesday's surgery, and could barely finish my sentence. We were both starting to cry. I truly hope this is worst part like everyone says. I'm going to ask for "joy juice" or an "I don't care" shot as soon as I get there!

Good luck on your surgery, but I'll wish you that again before you go in. Thanks again.

Ovarian Cysts, Anyone?

Hi Bonnie
I too can relate ovarian cysts are the worst as far as I'm concerned. A lot of posts here talk about heavy bleeding, luckly I've never had that but those pesky cysts. I had my left ovary and tube removed in 1999 because of cysyts and adhesions that had formed and stick them to my insides. Now on I'm having the right one taken out because on matter what we try we can't stop the cysts or the pain that comes with them. I'm also having a hysterectomy so that there are no chances of bleeding problems on HRT. Good-bye periods and pain all at once yeah!!!!!!

So don't apologize, this is a real problem to those of us who have it. Take care. Kathy

I forgot about when I started to cry just before surgery. The nurse came over and asked why I was crying. I said I was scared. He said as soon as the doctor talked to me he had a shot waiting that will stop me from crying and make me feel better. HE had it in his shirt pocket and pointed to it. I thought it was kind of cute. Your not alone if you feel like crying.

After surgery my cousin asked me how I felt just before surgery. I told her I cried and she said "thank God I'm not the only one that cried before surgery."

Don't feel bad if you cry in front of the nurses. I think they see it all the time.

to you

Thanks Sparkler. There will certainly be some crying going on on Wednesday! I was told once by a roommate of a police officer that the police officer told him he had NEVER seen anyone who can cry like I can (I was erroneously arrested--it's a funny story, but a long one).

Aw, Bonnie -

The waiting IS the worst part for most of us...really! Having trouble sleeping or concentrating is quite normal when you're stressed. And Braswell's right - you can be scared, and stil be strong!!

Sounds like you have a very sympathetic boss if you can cry together! You be SURE to tell them when you get to the hospital how scared you are, and don't feel ashamed of crying in front of the docs or nurses, like Sparkler said. I think crying is a great release, and it does let them know you need some extra attention.

You hang in there!!!!!

Cheers,
