I need to get it over with, but scared

Hi Ladies,
First Time Here! I am so glad to have found this site!!! I thought I was going to go out of my mind trying to find women who have gone through or are waiting to make a choice about a hysterectomy! I have many concerns and need to make decisions too! Not knowing what to do or expect has me in a tizzy. I will see my gyno/specialist on May 13th-finally! I have a family history and personal history of many difficulties. I am 41 on May 11th and have suffered through many sysmptoms and problems since late teens. Had left ovary and tube removed in April of 1982 while 5 months pregnant. Huge ovarian tumor. I didnt realize at the time of the long term consequences of ovary removal. From that point till the present I have gone through cryogenic surgery on uterus, c-sections, right tube removal(it was a mess, and ovary didnt look good then according to doc), many abnormal pap smears, absolute fatigue and stress, diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my cycles are crazy and very painful, along with too much bleeding and clots. I have been on HRT since late 1999, and in November 2001 had an unexpected D & C and biopsies. In addition, my mother took DES during all her pregnancies and in between! I need help! I know I will need to remove something, but what?!? I am scared about long term problems after surgery, and I am even more concerned about sexual functioning after surgery. I have read many of your posts, but I need to get through this, because I want my life back!!! I have a very enlarged uterus and cervix looks questionable, according to doc from november D & C visual. I dont know if I have fibroids now, had them in the past. Now,I am the only female sibling left in my family who has her insides! Sorry for being so long winded, but I need support and hopefully I have found this site to be that! What should I being asking my doctor and is there new technology that might help?

Hi Lorena and welcome to Hyster Sisters!

I see that you have had a lot of surgeries, I'm so sorry you have been through all of this!

Have you visited the pull-down menus on the main page yet? www.hystersisters.com There is a lot of information there and it helped me out tremendously! You can also use the search feature on this site to help you look for posts with certain words that you want to know about.

I'm glad you have an appt. with your doctor next month. Please try and read, gather your questions for him and make sure to remember a hysterectomy is a major surgery. There is a post-op period of usually 6-8 weeks, sometimes longer. During this time you will be on restriction from having anything in your vagina, driving unless your doctor has released you earlier, exercising, lifting anything weighing more than 5-15 pounds depending on your doctor. Depending on the surgery you are getting, the stay in the castle can be from 1-3 days/nights.
