Has anyone here had a pelvic venogram?

I have finally gotten a referral from my OB/GYN to a pelvic pain specialist, as a last-ditch effort to diagnose my pelvic pain before consenting to a hysterectomy. My OB/GYN believes (as do I) that in addition to adhesions (which I have a history of), I most likely have adenomyosis. I am in constant pain, have very heavy bleeding, and my periods have become unbearable, despite the fact that I'm on birth control pills. I have tried everything from physical therapy to Depo Provera to BCPs to try to get my cycles under control, but after nearly ten years, I'm at the end of my rope.

My appointment with the specialist is this coming Friday, and he has ordered a pelvic venogram to be done on Monday morning so he'll have the results before my meeting with him. I know what the general procedure is, but am hoping someone here has undergone the procedure and can tell me what to expect in terms of pain, recovery, etc.

I will likely be facing surgery in the coming months, but whether it will just be a lap or a hysterectomy remains to be seen. I certainly appreciate all the information I've learned from this site.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

Has anyone here had a pelvic venogram?

Hi, Susan! I'm sorry I don't have any personal experience with a pelvic venogram, and my search for that (you can use the "search" button at the top of the page to look for threads with subjects you're interested in) didn't really have a post describing what it feels like. I don't think it is painful--probably they will start an IV and inject a little dye that will show up the blood vessels on the uterus and pelvic area (with x-ray). Hopefully someone who has had this will be along to give a more personal viewpoint! It is good you are doing research and exploring your options before deciding a hyst is your best choice. s and best wishes!
