Yes, tell your doc to note on your chart that you will be taking your own meds. They do assume that if you're on meds that you need them, and they do have the same meds at the hospital. I had a choice between taking my own and letting the hospital supply them.

I asked while at the Dr office when the scheduler was working with me. She called me the next day and told me that I was covered 100%. I can't believe that so I am anticipating a couple thousand for who knows what expenses. I am shocked if the insurance is that good. I was told that the only extra charge would be if I got a private room and that it would not be necessary since my hospital has a new gyno wing with all private rooms. Guess I am a very lucky LIW..

I'm in Delaware - had my TAH 2/28, stayed in the hosp for 2 days, and so far I'm up to $18,000. Luckily Blue Cross covered 100% except for the $15 co-pay! I'm pretty lucky.

Evidently mine was a bargain. My doctor also charges around $2,000 + there's an assistant surgeon at $500, but the PPO discount brought that down to about $1,300 for my doctor and $250 for the assistant. The castle was $3,700 for a 1-day stay. So that's about $5,250 + the anesthesiologist's bill, which I haven't seen yet. I'm guessing it will be around $1,200 though. It was a TVH - I assume the cost is going to vary by procedure, and time in the OR, etc. The room charge at the castle was $440, which included a $25 private-room upcharge which I was responsible for. Other than that, my insurance paid 90%.

Cost

Hi LaaLaa,

I live in Denver Colorado. What part of Colorado do you live in?

I had a TAH/BSO and the hospital cost was over 19,000.00 for three days stay.
The doctor was almost 3,000.00
The Asst Surgeon was 700.00
Anestesia was another 1000.00
And not to mention several other doctors and labs etc that I get bills from almost every week.

Hope this helps,
Debbie

I had a LAVH - spent 1 night in the hospital. My total costs are about $ 16,000. I only had to pay a $ 15 co-pay. I am blessed!

How depressing!

Ya'll reminded me of several bills that I had forgotten...I know the assistant surgeon for me was 1200., and I can't remember what the totals were for various lab fees, ultrasound, etc...

All I know is that I get several (try 25 or so) phone calls a week asking me for the total balance immediately! Unfortunately, even though my hubbie and I make a good living, we can't afford private insurance, but we make too much to qualify for any assistance. And these are just the hyst bills....I had to go back in December to have the RSO, and those bills are running close to the same because it was laparoscopic and that's more expensive.

Oh well...I envy you ladies with good insurance!!

I'm in S.W. Montana. I had a TAH/BSO with 2 days at the castle. Castle bill was just under $6,000.00. My GYN was $2,500.00. The anesthesiologist was $750.00. Pathology was around $350.00. I hope this helps.
