hysterectomy costs

Hi LaaLaa. How depressing, I just got done paying the last of the bills from my hyst after insurance took care of their part. And it only took 16 weeks! The total for everything approached $23k. Bills came from all over, including the hospital, my DR, the resident who assisted her, the anesthesiologist, pathology lab...you get the picture. After insurance reimbursement (I have Blue Cross) I ended up paying around $7500, partly because my DR isn't one of their PPO's (she did discount her fee though). Just had a 2nd surgery last week, and I can hardly wait to start over with the bills rolling in from that one! Good luck with everything.

-Linda

I found out something really neat reading my hospitals billing info....They are non profit, they are funded by the state and private persons. They can not refuse services for surgery from anyone and they have to make a payment plan of not less than $5 a week for as long as it takes..those are things to look into, some hospitals have money they get from the state set aside for people who do not have insurance. all it takes it to go in to your local Department of human services and get them to deny you and they hospital will help with the fee.... They did for my friends son who needed his heart worked on..call the billing department and see if they may know anything abou this.
I know when I tallied up my lap it was over 12,000 for a whole 30 mins inside....aslo Watch your bills ask for your surgery papers and compare it to the bill...I got billed for several things that didnt matcht he count out on the med reports.. So for those of you who are paying anything in to this watch the paper work and if its not itemized make them give you it itemized. If you notice anything odd bring it to you insurances attention also....mine was happy I did with my lap i saved them $1500. Just a thought..... good luck to you that dont have insurance.....thats a bummer!!!!!!
*hugs* Hail

California

I live in CA. Hubby is in the military and thank GOD we didn't have to pay anything. But, hubby asked how much this would have cost us out in town and he said about 15,000 or more. I am very thankful for the military benefits. No out of pocket expenses for anything. I took my meds from home and the nurses gave them to me as needed. So if you do take your meds from home please let them know or they will take them away from you. They almost took mine away and I had to tell them my DR had already cleared it for me to have them.

hysterectomy costs

i live in WA... had a TVH and was home the same night which they consider outpatient altho i had a room and could have stayed. The hospital charge was 6600, anesthesiologist was 600, my gyn was 5000 , my insurance allowed only x amount in charges which they accept and i was stunned to only owe $75 !!! i keep waiting for more bills as i can't believe i owe so little.
good luck but it appears to vary area to area and procedure as well as length of stay.
