Ovaries, In or Out?????

Ladies, I talked to my doc today on the phone.
NO cancer. He said only a 2 - 3% chance but needed to make sure, just in case. He called and confirmed that's ok.

I do have an official date of Tuesday, June 4th now. As soon as school is out!! Our last day of school is 5/31. I'm officially a lady in waiting?

HERE'S MY QUESTION: Doc mentioned ovaries and we'll discuss it at my appt. on 5/9. It's my decision. We'll talk about the pros and cons next week. I want to be ready with information. So what's the opinion? What's the experiences? Leave them or take them? (Maybe I should post this on the post-op board) He was thinking take them out and giving me a patch. I haven't a clue. I thought you should keep them if possible. Please give me your opinions and experiences. thanks a lot.

Ovaries, In or Out?????

Hi,

Leaving or taking ovaries is just like anything else with an option, like a cervix, it's totally up to you. Your doctor probably suggested it as you are over a certain age and meet his criteria for that. If they are not diseased, why take them out? One ovary will produce the hormones until you reach menopause. Do you know how old your mom was when she started menopause?

Why not search the site for ovaries and see what comes up? I bet you get tons of threads to read.

Ovaries, In or Out?????

I had to make that decision w/my Dr too. we decided that while he was performing the surgery that if they looked good...to leave them in. And it turned out that they looked fine.
It's been almost a year since my surgery, & for the most part I've done well.
I kinda feel like if it's not broke, why fix it. Hopefully ypu have a Dr that you trust & can discuss your concern.
Good Luck,
Sharon
