Bladder spasms
I've read some variations of bladder spasms in this forum but I can tell you what I've experienced.
It's not like a urinary tract infection in my case. Instead it's at the very end of urination, when I'm just finishing up I get a cramp in my bladder that basically starts as dull cramp that gets a bit stronger and then goes away. It lasts about 20 seconds in total - if that - from hint of it's coming to it's complete disappearance. Most times it's located in the general bladder area. Other times, I feel it travel upwards from my bladder area to just under my navel.
I've had it since the catheter was taken out in the hospital. I'm now five weeks post-op and it's been starting to fade away some for the past week. Before I would get it every time I urinated. Now I get it just a few times a day. I seem to get it more on days that I'm more active (as active as one can be these days).
I talked to my doctor about it and he said, and I quote "If you could only see what we do to your bladder during the surgery." Apparently they move the bladder around quite a bit during the procedure. My doctor told me that our bladder spasms all the time - we just don't feel it. But our bladder does not take too kindly to being moved about and it gets bruised in the process. It's the bruising that causes us to feel the spasms.
For me, it hasn't been terribly painful, just aggravatingly uncomfortable. I called my doctor about it at 4-weeks post op because I was concerned that they were going on for too long. He said they weren't and that I should start to notice some difference soon. Within a day of talking with him I noticed that the spasms became very inconsistent in both frequency and level of discomfort.
Hope this helps.
