infection at 10 weeks post-op?????

hi

has anyone else had an infection 10 weeks after there op?

The last day or so,i have had a tender stomach, high up under the ribs.Bowels have been playing up abit too.But yesturday i had a thick yellow/brown discharge yukky. So i went to the doctors this morning and she examined me.She has sent of urine and vaginal swab samples to be tested and has put me on antibiotics.

She said she couldnt think what else it could be,but if it didnt clear up to go back to my surgeon, anyone else had anything similar?

I thought my days of vaginal swabs were over.I did have some vaginal bleeding at 8 weeks post-op,so i am not sure if this is connected.

Its such a blow, after being so well

any advise please

see dr. ASAP re infection

I had the same symptoms, at about 4 weeks post. I noticed I was in more pain and not getting any better, but worse, as you described. When I went in for 6 week checkup, diagnosis was cellulitus, a bacterial infection. Dr. said it was delaying the healing and extended restrictions another 6 weeks. She put me on a one week course of cipro, an antibiotic less likely to cause yeast infection than some others, (but expensive!) It did clear up the infection and the symptoms you describe. So I suggest anyone with these symptoms see the dr. ASAP! Now I'm almost 3 mo post op and getting better, but I think my recovery is still behind schedule, as I still have much fatigue, tenderness, and pain by late afternoon. Yet, when I think back, I see tremendous progress. I am 54, so perhaps it is time I learned to be patient-- a very hard lesson for me. (My hyst. was for endometrial early stage cancer; uterus and cervix removed, but kept ovaries.) Best wishes for your recovery!

re: infection

Hi Debs,

Think it sounds like an infection - what anitibios has she put you on out of interest?

I'm 9 weeks post op, and had a bikini line incision - I don't feel as if the pain is going, particularly when i get up in a morning, it hurts my bladder being so full. I do know they pulled about with my bladder as a fallopian tube and ovary were embedded in it, so that might be the cause. I like you went to the docs, he checked for kidney infection - but nothing. It still feels like I've got a catheter in when I wee - did you have this.

I thought I'd give it a week and if i feel no better I'll either ring the doctor or the gyni.

In general how are you doing? I like you thought vaginal swabs would be a thing of the past, but maybe it's worth having them every so often just to keep an eye on things. I had treatment last year for abnormal smear, so I think if I can have one every 3 years or so I will.

so glad the periods have gone! think of all the money we'll save!

Regards
Melanie

infection at 10 weeks post-op?????

If you kept your cervix or not it is still recommended that you continue getting paps to check for cervical or vaginal cancer. I had an infection that kept hanging on and had to take three different antibiotics. Good luck and hope you feel better.

infection at 10 weeks post-op?????

hi all
thanks for your replies.

mel-the antibiotic they put me on was just the standard co-amoxilin(may not have spelt that right). But my pain is much higher than the scar,i also have have a headache,so i think its part infection part bug.Did they send your sample away, because i picked up a uti in hospital and it didnt show on the dip test, but they said the hospital lab. tests are more accurate.Hope you get it sorted, its horrible to be held back in your recovery, isnt it?

I will let you know if mine turns out to be a n infection

chat soon

Deb - infection at 10 weeks

Hi Deb,

Got my results and they say there isn't a kindney infection - they sent the sample away for checking - so I don't know what's what.

I did get a uti in hospital so they sent me home on some aniti bios called trimperin or something like that.

I still have the discomfort and the dull headache. However, the pain in the back where the left kidney is seems to have subsided.

If I don't feel any better next week I think I'll give the Doctor a bell or the gyni's secretary to see if I can have a word with him. Just for reassurance that it's normal?? Whatever that it!

I suffered years with pelvic inflammatory disease and the problem with that is you don't know you've got it until you've had it a while. It doesn't always show up in swabs. I think I'm probably just scared stiff it's that all over again. Right now I feel as though I lost one type of pain and gained another in it's place.

Sorry this has turned into an essay! Hope you are doing well. How long did they advise you to stay of work etc?

Regards
Melanie
