pubic shave

Hi and to you. You have a lot to think about before now and your big day. I had a TVH as well and yes I did get the shave. They used an electric trimmer and it was ok....weird but ok. the only thing that bugged me about it was the fact that the nurse who was doing it wasn't able to get a vein for the iv inserted properly and they had to call ansthesia to do the I worried if she would be able to do the shave properly. She did FINE and it turns out that the iv problem really wasn't her fault at all. My veins just like to "run away" when they are being poked. I didn't like being shaved but it didn't hurt at all and now I am 15 days post op and my hair is pretty much all back. There was no itchiness or pain in the regrowth. I hope this answers your question.

Pubic shave

hello! I just had my pre-op on tuesday and the nurse told me not to shave because it could be a source for infection. So it sound's like they all have different preferences. Glad i won't have that itchy regrowth!!!!

Pubic shave

I had an LAVH.....and they shaved was the one thing I had totally forgot to ask my obgyn at my pre-op exam. It was done after I was asleep (thank goodness) and I didn't even notice it till late that night when the nurse came in to give me a sponge bath . I was sooooo embarassed and in my *drugged state* I blurted out to the nurse that *I didn't know they were going to shave it all*!

ok, delicate question...

some of you have mentioned not to shave yourself because the hospital might not perform the surgery.

What if you always keep it that way (personal preference) ?

Just an odd thought.

That's me Sheila! One reason I think the nurse was so impressed with my shave - it was 3 years old! I think there is not really much of an infection if you are already doing it - but ask anyway. You don't want to have to grow it back just to give them the chance to shear you!

Shelli- I did ask my gyn. She said "No! That won't be necessary at all."

Imagine my shock and surprise at finding they had done the deed, anyway.

So, what was up with that??? :

Pubic shave

I had a TAH and was pleasantly surprised to find I was NOT shaved. But, I have been
shaved for other surgeries and it's really not all that bad, they don't shave all of it.

Pubic shave

I had three surgeries: TAH; Bladder repair; fistula repair. They didn't shave me on the first two, but they did on the last one (all except this interesting little area that they left )

I had general anesthsia all three times and only was alert enough to see the OR once. I've been told that you aren't lying there exposed (everything is draped except what they're working on). Initially, I was kinda concerned about the shaving issue, etc, but I realized the entire OR team is concerned with other things and I think the shaving is the doctor's preference based on what they're doing.

Good luck and hope all goes well for you.
