Question About the "A" Word.

For my gallbladder surgery I met the "A" guy the morning of my surgery. Now for this surgery, my Dr's office told me to make an appointment to go and talk to them. I have my appt tomorrow and they said to expect it to last an hour.

I didn't have any problems w/my first surgery, but this time, I'm going in w/a pacemaker so am glad to be visiting ahead of time instead of the morning of. I bet if you call the hospital you are having the surgery at, they would be glad to make an appointment for you. I called my hospital's scheduling center's phone number and they made the appointment for me. I don't know if I'll be meeting my "A" person or not, but just being able to talk to one is going to get all me questions answered.

Question About the "A" Word.

The "A" guys my castle used were in a practice that included 30 of them. The one I talked to at the pre-op was not the same one I talked to before surgery, and the one in the OR was yet another "A" guy.

As for questions - I decided AFTER my pre-op that I didn't like the idea of a general so I call my doctor's office the day before surgery and told them I'd prefer a spinal. I also tried to talk to an "A" guy, but due to the sheer number of them, had no luck. My doctor's office called the hospital and told them I wanted to talk to the "A" guy prior to surgery, so after talking to him, I elected to do the spinal right before being wheeled into surgery. So it's possible to have last minute discussions, but waiting that long does raise the stress level considerably. (Thank heaven for versed. I'd have been a basket case without that.) I'd advise making up your list of questions prior to the pre-op if you will meet with an "A" guy at that time.
